I've been digging through the sticky thread called "Finishing and Weathering" and there doesn't seem to be a full list that aligns with my approach. See below - I'd love to get feedback from folks and see if I'm missing anything or have anything out of order. Feedback on the "why" would be great.

Thanks!

Looks good to me... The only thing I tend to additionally do is take out the sponge AFTER the decals have been applied to replicate paint chips on the markings, as well.

Cheers,
Cristian

Jake, I see nothing wrong with your sequence. Very comprehensive, actually.

Thanks, Matt!

I tend to build a lot, then paint all those builds, then build some more, then go back to weathering later...helps to keep my interests engaged. But that means I lose track of the linear process. Trying to build a to-do list where I can note where I left off so I can quickly pick it back up.

Off I go!

I would put step 12 on 5th position, I think painting details on a gloss finish more difficult.

One other question for the group: Should 19 and 20 be reversed? Is it better to mount to the base, then put pigments on so a) you don't handle and mess up the pigments and b) you match the ground work and the vehicle weathering?

Or should it actually be

[..]
19) Pigments
20) Mount to base
21) Blend pigments

Awesome list. Copied and pasted to a finishing document im writing. Questions..

Should filters be over a gloss or matt surface? What would the difference be?

Jake: I think applying first and then blending the pigments is the easier way to handle this. Think of the vehicle underside, for instance, which is not accessible once the base is on.

Ivan: I think filters shall be applied on non-gloss surfaces. Gloss surfaces tend to let the filters flow away in the recesses which then again makes them the right choice for pin washes.

Cheers,
Cristian
