Hi guys,
Apart from an Alanger set that I haven't seen but heard it's bad, what's out there for East German infantry in 1/35th?

I think Hornet or Wolf did one but not seen any others. The helmet is the tricky bit.

Ricardo,
The Alanger set is just fine for non-warfighting figures and represents the NVA from, say, late 70s to late 80s). I find them very useful in that the poses are just as I've described - casual, hanging around, being briefed poses. Their helmets are separate and could easily be fitted to the figures as opposed to the side caps they are all wearing.
An alternative would be to add Hornet Heads who produce a series of helmeted sets.
Hornet/Wolf also produce 2 x figures: one "stood at ease" in a plain uniform with side cap, and a more energetic figure in full field equipment (including helmet) in an assaulting position.
The Alanger figures can also be fairly easily backdated to the earlier uniform by adding Milliput or similar in order to produce the baggier camouflage uniform.
Depending on the timescale, some Wehrmacht figures of say, officers can also be easily modified to represent NVA officers.
Depending on your modelling skills - and by using the Hornet Heads mentioned above - in conjunction with the various weapons accessory sets around, more or less any variations of figures can be made.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
Brian

Thanks for the replies. I actually want to model a middle to late 80s scene, so I guess I'll give the Alanger set a try.

The Alanger/ICM set is rather nice, you could use the hornet east german head set, but personally I don't think it's necessary..
So besides the Hornet figures and the ICM/Alanger figures you might want to look at muritz- miniatures :
http://www.mueritz-miniaturen.de/bilder/nva/nva.htm
(I also have a 1/35 metal 'east german border guard' figure in my collection, it's quite obscure, I've only seen it once (and directly bought it), it's a nice figure of a typicla east german soldier resting it's arm (on a border post also in the kit), it;s in white metal but I'vent got a clue from what brand it is, maybe somebody here knows...)
Grz,
Sam.
