These releases look really nice, it great to see so many items for the Leopard 1 from several manufacturers.

I am still dreaming of a Leopard 1 mine plough and a Norwegian Leopard 1A5NO2 conversion with extended turret basket..

In that regard, the release of yet another Danish DK1 conversion is rather surprising, but there is never any harm in having a choice :-)

What countries did use that dozer blade? Did Denmark use it?

Hi!
This particular version with the new extensions and the fascine carrier is only used by Denmark. it came into service when Denmark increased their Leopard A3 Dk fleet with additional MBT´s with A4 turrets and retrofitted some other items to their tanks naming the new vehicle A5 Dk. More blades were needed and the design changed a little as they always had kind of trouble where to stow the old extensions when not in use. However PSM also has the CAN/AUS version under 35128.

The conversion to A5DK, with or without the extra surplus Bundeswher Leopard, as such did not make it nesesary to change the existing dozers, nor did the A5DK1 program.
The widen dozer came as a result of the service in the Balkan area. The Leopards often worked together with other vehicles, Danish as well as those of other nations, and the exciting dozers were simply a little too narrow. A simple extension corrected this. These were fitted during the IFOR period and are not found on the UNPROFOR period.
Later some of them were converted so they could carry fascines or lift Euro pallets (though only to a very limited extend). These are found on KFOR and SFOR tanks.

Well, thats right. But the increase of the Leopard 1 fleet made more dozer kits neccessary as the fleet more than doubled.

Denmark had dozer extensions on the early blade well before any Balkan mission, also with fascine forks. These old extensions had no provision to be stowed when not in use. Sometimes they were stowed at the rear of the blase, somtimes somewhere else on the vehicle. The new design solved this problem.

I am quite sure to have pictured the "new style blade with extensions" as in the PSM kit well before SFOR/KFOR missions in Oksböl camp.

But-don´t let us start battles where and why it was introduced. Let us be happy that someone did a kit of it!

Would it have been possible for the dozer blade with fascine carrier to have been found on any of the "black recce" Leopards?

Hi Jason,

yes and no, during my photo session on Oksböl firing ranges (which was used for the decals) the blade with the new extensions (as per the kit) was used on 62.419 and on the vehicle with the red painted convoy cross at the rear. The extensions were stowed behind the blade. The forks were not on the vehicle (even not stowed), also the fixing points for the forks were not fitted. As these fixing points need holes for the bolts to be screwed in, these were never fitted to both blades before. Both blades did not have holes drilled for this.

Andreas
