i wonder if Accurate Armours Chieftain gun can be used for Tamiyas Challenger 1 Mk.3 with some modifications?

Yes you can use the AA Chieftain barrel as it is the same gun used on both tanks. The only difference is where the gun clamp grips the barrel. A Challenger 1 has longer engine decks than a Chieftain, therefore the gun clamp grips the barrel forward of the fume extractor, while a Chieftain clamp grips it behind the fume extractor. You can see what I mean if you check the pics below

Later versions of the forward section of the thermal sleeve had the extra pads for the Challenger 1 clamp to grip added on. This was when Chieftain & Challenger 1 were both in service. On some pics you will see Chieftains with the newer forward section such as the one in the lower pic (later mks 10 & 11) and on others with the original section without the pads added.
