Anyone know if Michigan Toy Soldiers store is still open? The home page opens, but nothing after that. All I get is a "Bad Request" notice. I did some Google-ing and read that R. Berry, the store owner, was charged with stealing Peter Jackson's (LOTR, The Hobbit, etc.) credit card info from an order and using it. (Peter Jackson ordering toy soldiers??) Strange, if true. Makes it sound like a not too reputable business...I repeat IF true. Not spreading rumours, and don't want to be accused of libel, but it's all on the internet. And if it wasn't true, it wouldn't be on the internet! Too bad, I wanted to order some Orion figures!

I visited the store back in the 2000s. It's one of the best hobby shops I've been too (granted, I haven't been to many). It's akin to a house with many rooms and wow, MTS sure knows how to display their figures and items! They have display cases lining the walls with lots of figures and toy soldiers in them. They have wooden shelves with bases, figures, scenery, houses, etc. I mean MTS looks like one of the wealthier hobby stores. The staff there was pretty friendly.
The rumors you read are true, but that was several years back. Actor Tom Hanks was also a customer of their toy soldiers.
I ordered from them online a few months ago and service was very good. You can get an extra 10% off by being a member (no charge) so that 10% off really makes MTS a better deal than even eBay sellers if you know the price of figures. The figures that aren't in stock they will Special Order. I ordered from them because my friend who used to own a hobby shop ordered from them for years and said that he had no problems. So that convinced me to order.
I had no choice but to order from MTS because a lot of older figures cannot be found in online stores anymore and MTS was the only online U.S. store that still carried them in the U.S. and at pretty decent prices.
The MTS website works for me.

They are still open; a board member I know from another forum received an item from them late last week.

I used to shop there. I live in the area. I will no longer shop there but member's of our club still go there. Mr. Jackson was not the only person he tried to rip off. When I noticed a problem I was told it was an accident or that the credit card machine double charged me by mistake. So I would only use cash there. Found out that this wasn't the first time he got in trouble for this behavior. He had some good employee's who left over this. There is a little more to the story but shop there at your own risk.

Too bad! I have enough trouble with @$$ hole fraud artists in Jakarta (yes, Jakarta!) trying to steal my money!

A new shop? Is it a hobby shop and do they have an online website? It's rare for new hobby shops to open these days so I'm interested in checking it out if they're online.

You can order with complete confidence from MTS. The extra 10% is nice but you also get a nice personal touch as well. I just ordered (yesterday) a couple of items from them, one of which is a new release and not yet available. Steve sent me a note to make sure that waiting until the new release item was in before they sent the whole order was okay. I have had that kind of service from them on almost every order, follow-ups to let me know something had shipped, checking to make sure it was right, and, yes, even trying to sell me some more paint for the new rack I ordered!
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Rick
