Tamiya was nice enough to send us their new as yet un-released Panther kit as well as most of the add-on parts available for it.

Thanks for the review Jim.

Think I will be ordering this kit when it becomes available.

Tell you what the heads on the figures sure have some nice detail on the faces.

I noticed they still have the trenches on the weld seams on the turret and hull. I'm looking for top down views. If I remember though that is not accurate. Is Tamiya still getting the weld seams wrong? It looks like a nice kit other wise and I am tempted. Depends on the price. If having all the nice detail pieces separate keeps the price down props to Tamiya. But if it doesn't it will be a deal breaker.

Looks like a nice kit, not sure if I want to more or less than the kit Zvezda have already released though.

Tamiya and Dragon are going in two very different directions. So glad to see Tamiya back in the game.

Jim, thanks for the video review. My daughter wants to get this for my birthday this month (she asked and I knew this was coming out in July).

Has a release date been announced? T'anks.

Hi Duane,
Sorry for not seeing your question earlier. I would think it would start showing up soon if not already on pre-order status with most online retailers. We usually get these 2-6 weeks prior to availability in NA and Europe.

Cheers,
Jim

Would it or should it have Zimmerit at that time?

All the decal options are for the Kursk battle period which was a few month before the order to apply zimmerit were issued, so no.

The PE grills & metal gun should be included with the kit. I will buy this kit anyway but geez, come on..stop bleeding cash out of us.

Thanks for the review, very informative with some very useful photos as well.

Surprised no one has mentioned the surface texture on upper hull and turret. I guess it is supposed to represent the pitting from the rolling process but it is well over done. Scale that up to 1:1 and it would look like the tank had been subjected to excessive small arms fire and shrapnel damage.

I've got to agree about the paid for add-ons. Surely PE grilles should be included as standard in this day and age, especially in kits from premium companies like Tamiya. Apart from the usual superb engineering, I can't see anything in this kit that makes it more attractive than the Dragon or Zvezda offerings.

Really in-box brass grills are a suprisingly rare in modern kits. Bronco had then whole grill moulded into the engine deck for their first SU-152 release and the KV grill meshes are a lot visable on the tank than the Panther's.

I definitly prefer the excellent Dragon Panthers, but no knocking Tamiya as their kits definitly have their place.A well fitting Tamiya kit is always welcome for those who want to avoid Dragon complexity.

True about the PE,that at the minimum should be included,at least Dragon includes the grills although metal guns have disappeared from their newer kits.

Anthony I will say that Dragon now has at least one new Panther release where they have not included photo etch at all.
