Hi there, Ive always liked painting models since I was a kid , but gave it up for 30 years for career etc. Im now retired and have been painting 40k and fantasy minis , but I recently got into Flames of War

Does anyone have any tips or tricks for doing nice paintschemes on the 15mm German tanks? or do I just use the same techniques for shading/washes etc, but be more careful?

Thanks so much

Obviously everything gets scaled down, including overdone chipping effects, streaks, etc. On a more serious note, if you happen to believe in the scale effect (which I do) then your colors need to be toned down even more than in 1/35 scale. Not much, but I think it is still a noticeable difference.
Being retired, my best advice to you would be to buy an Opti-Visor.

Thanks,

I didnt say I was 65 though, Im only 50 my eyes are semi good still luckily

by toning down , you mean mute the colours so they dont look too cartoony or vibrant?.

Finally received my models and started building them, you were right, quite small! my father gave me a head magnifier set, so now I look like a watchmaker from 1880!

questions to follow Im sure

I'm tellin' ya, even with good vision, you can't beat an Opti-Visor or something similar. Good luck with it.

I've seen arguments for going both ways -- being more careful about picking out detail in the small scale, and exaggerating the detail because of its small size.

Battlefront has their own book on painting Flames of War miniatures, the Colors of War book. If you put 'flames of war painting technique' into Google, you'll get a pile of links to sites with Flames of War tutorials.
