Dear Richard,

First of all, which winter coat you are looking for?
There was the Polushubok coat, made of reversed sheep skin. It was yellow/tan, with brass buttons.
The M43 great coat was kind of grey green/brow.
But also dark grey was seen, at least one officer wore it in 1944 in Hungary.
Also, there was a greatcoat, made of American manufacture, which was recognisable by the double row of buttons instead of the Russian hooks. These coats were green.
The M 35 great coat was very light brown, tending to yellow/white.
The 1935 pattern greatcoat was camel.
And the well known Tielogreïka padded jacket and trousers were very light green.
So, all together, quite some variation.
To this one has to take in account that all these uniforms were made in various factories, from various batches, over a long period. Thus creating quite a difference in colors (and quality).
Next to the fact that after a while the effect of usage, laundry and weather showed their effects as well by changing the colors.
The Soviet soldiers showed, within the same unit, so much differences that you should not bother too much about the color.

P.
