Hi Guys,
Quick question regarding the italian semovente 75/18. I know they were often attached to artillery groups. Did they use aiming stakes when used in the arty role? If so, where were they carried on the vehicle?
Thanks

Based no their short range and combat role, I'd say no. Indirect fire role would have been limited by the max elevation quadrant of the piece. It's fairly easy to aim a piece like this in the direct fire mode.

Thanks Robert. That helps clear my thinking. I'm thinking of a dio with a semovente in a semi-prepared firing position but wasn't sure what those preps would entail.

Semoventes were dedicated assault guns or Sturmgeschütze. The role of the Sturmdeschütz in the German Wehrmacht was to provide direct fire support againt nemy field positions to protect advancing infantry.
