I have heard from Mauser. He has been assigned to duties in Iraq and he states that a lot of the Transportaion Units over there have Gun Trucks now. He saw one unit that had at least 10 of them for convoy security. He is going to send photos back as soon as he gets settled in and gets his hands on a camera.

Interesting, although hardly unexpected... Did he say whether they were 'local' modifications or adapted stateside?...Just curious...Jim

Just read on the internet that at Camp Anaconda locale Iraqi metal workers are working with US Army personnel to add armor plate to Hummves and 5 ton trucks. Also, the troops are adding wood planking and sandbags to increase personal protection. Looks like the lessons of the past have not been lost on this generation.

Here is a link to the article GSPatton spoke about. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4000820/

I don't know about modern vehicles but that looks like some kind of gun truck they are making there.

Quite a document that Cardinal. Just that one link has managed to clarify some of the fears I have held for several months now. Obviously convoy-protection never got a high priority with the Pentagon bean-counters. Good to hear that some (albeit late) measures are now being taken. A truly absurd state of affairs indeed...Jim

This may be a bit but I heard on the radio yesterday the Pentagon is going to start shipping the self adhesive spall liners/amor kits to Iraq to beef up the Humvees.
Stop a .50 @ 40 feet. Must be pretty tough stuff.

Linkage below.
