Beautiful results with an older kit!! The draped track, the ash from the burnt rubber, the missing front end, all give a realistic look of a tank that's blown up & burned from inside-out. I also like how it portrays a loss from recent combat as opposed to one sitting in a field for months. Top notch work, Stephen!!

I agree. I really like the burned road wheels and the display with the kids, etc. Not sure if armor plate would bend like that though?

Thanks for the comments guys appreciate, Jrutman I viewed alot of destroyed vehicles before hand, you would be suprised how metal and armour react to blast and concussion effects but I take your point cheers.

Awesome build. The details and the realism around the blown up front looks great.

This looks ace! That Verlinden interior and transmission looks very nice. Not cheap though... Great finish - like the ash very much.

Stephen,
Great work! I like the missing transmission in front of the driver and the seat frame surrounded by ash. The burnt tires - I concur they look authentic.
There is nothing wrong with thick armor plate being warped by blast. I saw a photo of an (cast hull?) M4 that was hit and the rear was warped upward like a badly warped styrene molding. I searched for it but found something (s) better:
Winged Sherman
I don't recall how thick the rear armor was but see how HV shot can 'dish' armor: https://www.google.com/search?q=destroyed+m4+sherman&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAWoVChMIso7-zP2lxwIVCx4eCh1hFwXK&biw=1600&bih=789#imgrc=_

Frederick, wow thanks great set of pics have saved most of them for future lol, yea it has to be remembered the effect of a blast in a confined space such as the inside of a tank, all that force with no where to go except out and nothing will get in its way not even armour.
Thanks for the comments appreciate.

I wonder if any after market companies could come up with an engine, extra parts (blasted),debris etc for certain tanks that modelers could use for wreck diorama. I know some of us have stashes but why destroy a good kit (expensive0

David, there are company's out there that do interior sets and engines etc Verlinden to name but one but these are used I think to aid you in your finished item. The rest is all up to you and your imagination.
As for the expensive kits use cheaper ones lol, like you say no point destroying an expensive kit if you can find a cheaper alternative especially if your gonna add an update set of some kind, it's all about the maths.

From what little I've seen of the inside of a destroyed tank, unless a round specifically hit something (transmission, etc.), most damage would be to 'soft' components - wiring, seats, engine hoses. Some metal parts could be torn up but 'heavy' parts like gun breeches seem to survive more or less noticeably intact. Recoil cylinders might be cracked or split. But it appears that you could use an interior set and perhaps leave a part or two off. Scatter random styrene bits around for soft items shredded in the blast.

Belton Cooper, in his book Steel Coffins, wrote that salvagable tanks were often quickly repainted after damaged parts were replaced/repaired, and back into action they went.

Destroyed tanks are often a mass of junk that, if shown as a model without source material, would be laughed at as 'oh yeah, like THAT would happen'. Anyone seen the M4 that had its turret blown off yet the gun is stuck in the open driver's hatch, holding the turret aloft?

Frederick, all good points buddy thanks, with those in mind anything is possible for a destroyed model. Checking plenty of photos is a must cheers Stephen.
