Can Testors Dullcote be sprayed from an airbrush directly from the bottle or does it require thinning and if so with what?

This is my favorite flat coat to use as I find it gives a better "flat" than its acrylic counterparts. I thin it with Testors enamel thinner (in the red can) at about a 1 to 1 ratio. I then spray very light coats over and over until I get the right amount of "flat".

Thanks Len, does this affect the drying time at all?

Dullcoat is (or at least was) available in bottles (for airbrushing) as well as spray cans.

I find that lacquer thinners works best with Dullcoat. It dries very quickly: you can handle the model almost right away.

I have always thought Testors Dullcoat thinned with Testors Metalizer Thinner to be a great combination. Thin it 50/50, mix it well and it lays down in a very smooth, flat, finish. The Metalizer Thinner seems to compliment the Dullcoat better than regular lacquer thinner. Just my take on it.
Best wishes,
Ian
It is a fact that under equal conditions, large-scale battles and whole wars are won by troops which have a strong will for victory, clear goals before them, high moral standards, and devotion to the banner under which they go into battle.

Mike,Pete,and Ian,
Thanks to all,I went out and found it in a spray can and gave it a try- It's looking good so far but I like the idea of thinning it and using my airbrush for better control, spray cans scare me.

I agree with Mike, Lacquer thinner works best to thin the Dull Cote. Its my "go to" Flat Coat for all Military Models. I mix a bit over 50/50. probably closer to 60% Thinner to 40% DullCote...gives me more control over my layers/coats.

Here what the Bottle looks like:

Gary,
Would hardware store thinner work with that?

You bet! I use either Klean-Strip brand Lacquer thinner or Crown brand Lacquer Thinner. I get either one at my Hardware store or Wal-Mart.

You can buy it buy the Quart or Gallon. I buy the Quart size and it last a good while and is cheaper by the ounce than Testors thinners.
