I got Tamiya's brass shells for their King Tiger and I was just wondering which are high explosive and which are armor piercing rounds. One type is yellow with a silver tip and the other is shorter and is black with a white tip. I'm guessing the yellow ones are the AP rounds, but I don't have any references about this.

According to my references, it was the HE shell was yellow and the AP rounds that were black. You should also note that by the time the King Tiger entered service many of the cartridges were being manufactured from rolled steel instead of brass.

Thanks for the info, Geoff. Would you suggest I paint the shells a silver colour then?

Personaly, I'd use something like Tamiya XF 56 Metallic Grey, maybe darkened a litle, rather than silver or aluminum.
