New masking putty from Ammo. Suppose to be reusable? For how long? I presume once it gets enough paint on it, it won't be that great.

Or the Blu-Tac putty used to hang posters and such which is doubtless cheaper, but this stuff has probably been optimized for modeling usage.

Blu-tac can be too sticky and hard to remove vs this.
I have some Panzer Putty (same product) and its pretty insane how good it works. Has a bit of a learning curve, nothing to hard.

I buy the no-name brand at Staples(Business Depot), it is not too sticky, and it is dirt cheap, a buck a pack.

Eastern Mt Sports and other rock climbing outlets, as well as medical supply stores sell Thera-putty in tubs or Power Putty in small hand-shaped clamshell boxes.
The EMS stuff is not cheap by the ounce though. $8 per 2 oz package, comes in various 'strengths' and when removed quickly does not leave a residue.
Amazon carries both.
Might be another option.

Not Blu Tak. Blu Tak is a carbon based product and can leave residue behind. Panzer Putty (& I assume the MIG product) is silicone.
Stumbled upon yet another version of it, called PK Incredible Masking Putty.

It is. Mig stated, in a recently posted demo video, that he would be reselling Panzer Putty under AMMO branding.
I have the Panzer Putty, but have not used it yet. Feels and reacts like Silly Putty to me..

My main question about the product is how does it stay usable once dried paint get on it. You would think that it would get full of paint and no longer stick.

We would have to understand the chemical composition of the silicon-based putty. I'm sure it will reach a point when it becomes ineffective.
I remember flattening silly putty and pressing over the newspaper comic strips. The image would transfer onto the silly putty, but after kneading a bit, any trace of the newspaper ink would disappear.

No.

Plasticine, a brand of modelling clay, is a putty-like modelling material made from calcium salts, petroleum jelly and aliphatic acids.
Silly Putty is a toy based on silicone polymers that have unusual physical properties. It bounces, but breaks when given a sharp blow and can also flow like a liquid. It contains a viscoelastic liquid silicone, a type of non-Newtonian fluid, which makes it act as a viscous liquid over a long time period but as an elastic solid over a short time period. It was originally created by accident during research into potential rubber substitutes for use by the United States in World War II.
