Hello to all.
I am doing Bronco M1114 FRAG 5 kit as a U.S. Military Police Corps convoy escort vehicle for late Iraq war. My model is almost finished.

Just a point of information, in 2009, around September, I believe the Army issued an order that HUMVEEs were not to be used outside of US bases, as the EFP threat had caused so many of them to be breached or flipped over. I was stationed at Camp Liberty at the time and as I recall the change came as a result of a particularly deadly incident inside or near the green zone involving a humvee and an IED. Course I also recall an incident with an MP unit with Humvees and the ND of a 50 cal in the parking lot next to the shopettes near the chow hall so ..... LOL

It happened while I was there, I was doing CST missions with an Engineer Bn and we used MAXX Pro + and RG-33s. We had 1114s for kick around the base but they were not allowed to leave the wire. It might have been specific to MND-B too but I dont remember much other than there was a really bad incident that set off the change in policy.

Semi related - is there any online references that detail the evolution of these trucks? I really don't know the differences between the early versions, the 1114, the later 1151, etc.

Seems like a pretty fascinating subject (at least to a nerd like myself).

I have a reference I sell that shows M1114's and M1151 used by SF in in Iraq. It also includes several variants of SF GMV's, the MARSOC GMV, as well as a Slovenian SF HMMWV and a full walkaround of the Iraqi HMMWV's that rolled with an SF team (mine) in Iraq. Interested parties can PM me.

Here are pics prior to final assembly.

The model is painted with Tamiya and Mr.Color enamels. Weathering is Tamiya and MIG.

Antenna is a steel guitar string. The radio receiver cord is a stretched guitar string winding (I removed the core wire from it). 40 mm Mk19 empty cases are stubs cut from copper wire. The mirrors are made of aluminum foil from candy wrappers. The antislip stripes in the trunk are cut from sand paper #400. The map is a real U.S. military map of Iraq. The Playboy is of April 2009.

Looks really good. I like the paint job and weathering. The camo body w/sand armor looks good and is a nice contrast. The interior looks sufficiently lived-in as well w/all the accessories.

One note though, you should replace the Playboy w/ something more tame; Stuff, Maxim, FHM, etc. Under General Order #1, all pornography was/is prohibited in Iraq and A'stan. If caught w/it, you could be prosecuted under UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice). It was definitely a no-no. I'm not saying it wasn't there, just not out in the open. Mags like Stuff, Maxim, and FHM were allowed and commonplace.

All you gotta do is change the cover from a playboy to a Maxim, Road and Track, or Sports Illustrated ( also almost guarentees no females will want to look )... whats underneath the cover isnt in plain sight LOL.... that or invest in a good hard drive... Mine got "confiscated" for about 5 days while the commander and XO "/reviewed" the material on it before determining it was of a morale enhancing nature and returning said hard drive LOL.

Thank you! I will replace it but taking all the pictures again will be too long, maybe I will retake a couple of interior shots when it's corrected. I'll remember this important issue for the future.
