Here is a few photos of the latest advances on my Aussie 1941 Ford Marmon-Herrington LP3A Gun Tractor.

Progress has been slow but is finally coming together now. This is made from parts of 2 kits plus scratch building.

Kits were IBG South African M-H Armoured car kit and the ICM Ford V3000 kit. 18inch wheels for the truck and 20inch wheels for the gun it will tow (2nd spare)and main body are scratch built with resin copies made. Rear body is plastic and brass.

Comments welcomed - good or bad

Hi Cliff

Never seen anyone else make one of these! It looks great, but if I can make one suggestion, it is spoilt by the tyres which really do not look very realistic. If you could find better treads it would be fantastic.

I regret that I cannot provide pics of mine (1/76 scale). I have built two, but have given them both to Aussies who helped me with pics of their restored vehicles, and I have not summoned up the courage to start on a third as the kit is rather a lot of work! I have a wonderful pic of one coming down from Palestine to the Western Desert; it has no glass in the windscreen and the passenger has one leg sticking through where the glass ought to be, plus an aircraft sentry sitting on the roof!

the tyres on the truck are direct copies of the Aussie 18in tyre tread and size. Mainly the semi gloss looking paint which makes them look unrealistic at this stage. The 2nd spare is a direct copy including tread of the wheels found on Aussie 18Lb guns when converted to rubber tyres. I have a Resicast 18Lb gun and limber to convert over from WW1 configuration for this to tow.

Thanks for the comment

I would suggest enhancing the wood grain, with either an enhancing tool or Archer decals. Also, you may want to add some doped tissue to the seat. It is amazing how much this improves the overall look of the build. AFA the tires go, I can see where Chris is coming from. If you believe you can, add a bulge to the bottom making them looked weighted.
