Did they op any Guntruck equivalents, or did they rely entirely on the 113 for escorts?

That is a good question. I know that they used the M-113's but I am not sure if they had their own Gun Trucks. They received convoy security from the US MP's and from some of the Trans company Gun Trucks. Does any one know if our brother Aussies had there own Gun Trucks?

I think this question deserve's some research. Also, very curious, what is the truck in the picture that is at the extreme right of the picture where you can only see the tyre's?

Tread.

Aussie 'variant's' have always been very interesting.

Tread they are all international ACCO trucks or acco's as we called them. similar to the butterbox cab internationals but local design and built bodies for here.

Gee, if there's not a kit available 'Roo, there's another Aussie truck you should scratch!

Tread.

Do you have any other pictures of the vehicle? Oh, and before I forget to ask, do you have any pics of that 6-seater variant you were talking about?

Hi There,

In answer to your questions regarding the Aussie Acco trucks, in Nam we did not have any of these vehicles converted into 'gun trucks'.
Some of the 6x6's had tipper bodies fitted to them, all the vehicles in the photo are of the Series III and all the 4x4's were later replaced by the M.B. Unimog.
The vehicle extreme right that only shows the tyres is an ACCO Series III 6x6.
I hope I have been of some help in answering your question.
Regards
Rob.

Animal,

Can I ask where you got that pic of the SWB Rover with the pintle mounted M60? We've got a technology curator at work (Australian War Memorial) who is a mad keen and *very* knowledgeable man on trucks and AFV's - he'd LOVE to see that pic but the first thing he will ask me is 'when, where, how etc' ;-)

Thanks mate

I got it from our Gun Truck web site. from our photo section. http://groups.msn.com/VietnamGuntrucks/_homepage.msnw?pgmarket=en-us Our membership is open to all and we have truckers from Australia as members as well. The time frame is the Vietnam War, not sure of the exact date. You could ask some of the members there for some help and I will try to dig up some more info on this photo in the mean time.

All,
Here´s a link to an excellent site about Aussie Land Rovers in Vietnam http://remlr.150m.com/ - great photo galleries and lots of variations, including a few Vietnam gun buggies.
I´ve also seen a couple of photos of Land Rovers mounting 106mm recoilless rifles, but can´t find out (yet) if they were used in Vietnam or not - anybody else got any clues about this?

Howdy fellas,

Here's another one I came across and thought you might like!

Doesn't this qualify as a Gun Jeep?

Here's a few more you may not have seen.

Although, from what I have read, the Aussie's called them GunBuggy's, not Gun Jeep's

G'day Folks,

The 3 photo's you posted of the Aussie gun Buggies.
Photo one: Looks to be the SWB 'Gun Buggy' that the RAAF ADG [Airfield Defence Guard], had during the late 80's to early 90's.
Photo two: Possibly late 80's with the 105mm Recoiless Gun, background in photo hard to detirmine what Defence Base.
Photo three: Possibly late 70's taken at the Army Research and Development Unit, of the intended mobile 'Antak' Guided Missle project.

These vehicles have since been replaced in the Army by the 6x6 Land Rover and the RAAF use the 4x4 Land Rover, from the early 90's.

I hope I have been of some help, with these.

Howdy foxtrot,

Many thx for the intel on the photos. I was uniquely impressed with the 'Antak' gun buggy. Looked like a heckofa vehicle! Not really sure I would accept those rather small looking blast shields as proper protection if I was the driver.
Still, it would make for an interesting ' variant' build up.

G'day again Folks,

In my gallery is a copy of a photo of the current RAAF 'Gun Buggy', it has been sujested to us at Shadoworks, to bring this out as a resin kit. The photo is one that has been sent to me as a reference for this project.

I would be intersted in your comments.

Regards
Rob.
