Hi All.
I,m currently building the Meng AMX 30B2. lovely kit, but my question is can I build it from the box in standard NATO colours or does it need to be modified? I,ve seen some pics of it in Standard NATO three colours but in various states of modification. I,m a bit fed up with building Sand coloured armour!

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mark

You can indeed find pics of the B2 in 3-color camo (AFAIK, the green and brown colors are not exactly the same as the NATO ones). Check out Olivier's pics :

Mark,
have a look at my site to see pictures of a B2 in three-tone camo. You'll see the original tank without the Desert Storm/Daguet mods.

From memory, you should not use the side skirts, the extra smoke grenades launchers on the turret front sides, the IR jammer in front of the gunner hatch and the horizontal plates over the sponsons. For those plates, I'm not sure if they are in the kit though.

Thanks guys that's great, Yes I was thinking of using a brighter green than standard NATO, maybe Tamiya XF5 or its Vallejo equivalent, just ordering some French crew from Blast models and I,m good to go!!, as an aside, is it still in service?

AFAIK, it was phased out in 2011...

See can now get a paint set for French Armour.
It shows 2 greens, NATO and another.
Does anyone know if the second green is actually he brighter green that is seen on AMX and Leclerc or do they suggest it should be NATO which I don't think is right?

Is it the set you're talking about ?

if so, the "IR OTAN" green is for pre-1990's vehicles camo. The other green "Vert Foncé IR" is OK for the current 3-color camo.

Not totally phased out, some remain in service with the OPFOR unit in Maily le Camp but sport a greyish blue and black camo scheme. They also have some vismods so you can't build one straight from the box.

A good news is the release by Djiti of the DX175 fire simulation system (MILES equivalent) which is still in use for combat training.
