Looks like they corrected turret roof error from the KV-85, for the new IS-1 kit--perhaps future reissues of the KV-85 will have this turret as well.

Great news on the Scud! Looking forward to it but I guess the Smerch will still stay on the top of my list for now

Silly question for you.. How to make a JS-1 from a KV85? I will wait till it out.

Wasn't Bronco the one who made that error on a KV-85 roof? The cupola was supposed to be sized to 1/30 scale or something.

Separate companies, separate mistakes.

On their KV-85, Trumpeter rounded off the left rear corner of the turret roof aft of the commander's cupola, but that was a change seen on the IS-2. On the 85mm gun turret shared by the KV-85 and the IS-1 (IS-85), the turret roof plate was symmetrical. Eastern Express has this right on their kit, for instance. The new Trumpeter CAD drawing appears to show this symmetrical plate, so hopefully, it will be accurate on the finished model.

Meanwhile, Bronco made the commander's cupola on their KV-85 kit too large, and the loader's hatch had to be shifted right to make room for it.

If you'd asked me last month, I'd have said mate a turret from an Eastern Express/Ark KV-85 to a Cyberhobby Stalin kit, and add some aftermarket (or Tamiya) wheels. The gun mantlet would have needed some work, or possibly the Dragon IS-1 mantlet could be adapted.
Now, of course, you can just buy the new Trumpeter kit.
