Now this may seem a bit strange, but I can't seem to find a good color for depicting the greenish tone of this type of screen:
I have a 1/35 scale comms device which features a similar screen but much larger, so the color will show quite nicely. Anyone has an idea what color to use?

Mario,
May I suggest a bright green as the real item would be backlighted and sunlight (glare) readable? Just seems like the typical calculator is not the same as Mil-Spec display that is much higher quality when turned on. Just afraid it would suggest that the unit is powered down if you matched this calculator color? Please excuse the quality of this photo of an old SINCGARS, but it shows the bright Testor's enamel green color from the little bottle, (not Master Model series).
Many online military vendor advertisements showing bright green displays for radios etc. are on the web. Just a thought? Hoping others will comment. Love your work. Please share more as following closely.

I’m interested into some of the suggested solutions for this. I have a couple similar items that will need tackling, and they are prominent so the screen needs to have the right look. I have the TACNAV (and older MHS) display that sits in the driver’s station of the AAV. It is a fairly large display and has the same color/tint as a calculator. Even larger are the screens in the newer AAVC7A1 that is at each station.
I’ve tried mixes of silver and gray without luck.
Perhaps if all else fails I could buy one of those .99¢ calculators and chop up the screen, that should give me about 100 or so 1/35 displays.

Hi Mario,
Based on your calculator pic, I would suggest a gray/green color
over coated with a gloss coat.....should work.
Cheers,
Joe

Thanks for the replies Stuart, Daniel and Joe.
Daniel, TACNAV display is exactly what I was thinking about. I'd like to paint the display turned off, and I tried some greyish-greenish tints, but no luck in getting close. The photo you showed makes it look more grey though.

I had to do a screen like this on some equipment for a figure bust once and I used Vallejo Brown Violet- I then gave it a thin coat of Future.

Mario, vallejo russian green looks quite similar, added golden brown would do highlights, if needed.
Good luck!

How about a base of flat aluminum overpainted with a thinned Tamiya Smoke/clear green mix? Maybe start with an 80/20(smoke/green) mix and adjust from there.

Vallejo grey green or an RLM02 match (Gunze RLM02 looks like that colour.

Hi Mario. Just wondered if you learned any more about the color on the screens? I thought the purple tinted idea above was interesting. All the best!

There is also a semi clear pink and green acrylic paint normally used for vision blocks available.

I'm a little late to the discussion but based up on just the first phots, I'd use Tamiya German Field Gray. It is often used by modelers, including me, to depict the green in British green/black cameo. It looks just right to me.

Thanks guys for your suggestions. I tried Gunze RLM02 and I think it is a good match... greyish tint. I added a custom made decal for those two oval stripes on the TACNAV and I hope to show the photos of the finished thing soon.
Cheers,
Mario
