Does anyone remember back in the 90's some of the dioramas that were in the DML catalogs? I'm looking for one that had a congested road way and there were either a group of Nashorns or Hummels making there way around. Anyone remember this and maybe know where I can get a copy of the catalog or pic's of this diorama?

They even had a diorama or two built by Shep Paine.

Thanks guys that would be great. You know these are the things that got me building models. The first kit that I built was a Monogram Sherman "Hedgehog" and Shep's tips opened a whole new dimension to me. I had always saw models as a static item all alone for view, not part of a 3D picture and now I can't seem to see it any other way.
Anything you guys could help with will really be appreciated!

Still looking for one of the DML catalogs from around 1999 that had a diorama in it of a convoy of vehicles including wagons where either a Nashorn or Hummel were going off road to bypass the congestion. Anyone out there remember this diorama?

Have you had a chance to see if you have one of the DML Catalogs that have the diorama I was talking about?
Thanks, David

Hi David,
here's what I have as far as old DML catalogs, doesn't sound like any of them match what you're describing though.
1990- Shep BMP-1 diorama
1992- nothing of note
1995- combo DML, Kirin, and Concord books catalog
E100 diorama
JS-2 diorama
2 dioramas set in what looks like Soviet push into Berlin
Tet figure diorama
Nam riverboat diorama
sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Hello Dave,
I have all of Dragon's catalogues from the beginning (1992). Recently, I was thinking of throwing them away, but now it seems they are still worth keeping. I'll take a look and contact you within the next 24 hours.
Greetings,
Mark

Sounds good Mark I appreciate it, this seems to become one of the obsessions that you can't get off of your mind. I seem to see it but can't recall exactly what it looked like. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi David!
As promised, I searched the DML catalogues and might have found what you had in mind. I don’t know if there were any differences between European (German) Dragon catalogues and the DML ones you got in the States. I went through them thoroughly (three times) and couldn’t find the described dio.
What I found (issue 1998) is a drawing of one of Dragons more or less talented painters, depicting a horse-drawn anti tank gun which is passed by a Bergepanther going over a pile of debris (Dragon kit number „6079 D 2,8cm sPz841 Anti Tank Gun“). Under number „6104 D“ we have a horse-drawn „8,8cm Panzerschreck Infanteriekarren“ with only a hint of a tank in the background. I’ll take a picture and try to post it. This might take a day or two, maybe my friend Tobias who is already a member on Armorama can help. Sorry to have no better news, but maybe your mind played tricks on you!? (SMILEY!) Or me!

I hit the enter button too early!
It seems that dioramas in Dragon catalogues came later (from 2004 onward), except a lone photo of a built kit without background. If you are certain that Hummels or Nashorns were involved, I'll search again. Dragon Nr. "6001 D Nashorn" shows a Nashorn in winter setting, with ski-troops passing a knocked-out KV-something.
What so ever (???), feel free to bug me until we've found what you're looking for.

My timeline may be off somewhat, best I can remember it was a diorama from Hobby Japan and it a had busy road scene with wagons and vehicles. From what I can remember 2 self propelled guns were going off road to bypass the congestion. I appreciate your help.

Hi David!
I'll have another look and concentrate on the catalogs after 2000!
By the way, my mother is from Bavaria, between Deggendorf and Vilshofen. My dad is from Lemmon, South Dakota. I always loved to go both places and visit my grandma(s).

Hi David!
I stayed up a little longer last night and had another try. I'm sorry, but I can't find anything even near what you describe. My best guess is that Dragon USA (DML) might have had different catalogs for different markets!? I searched vol./issues (?) 1993-2016. There are quite a few dios by Hobby Japan but none matching.
Probably, I'm as disappointed as you are, 'cause I really wanted to help. Your post even made me register here on Armorama after long years of "hidden membership".

Mark,
I appreciate the effort my friend. If I find a find a copy of the diorama I'm remembering I will post a picture. Thank you for all you time and willingness to assist. Stay in touch!
Thanks again, David
I also visited my Grandmother and relatives in Germany every other year until I was 17. A very beautiful country I always enjoyed my trips. The last time I was there we visited the Deutsches Museum in Munich such a great place to visit.

Hi guys,
Sorry I can't help with your diorama search David, and I don't mean to hijack your thread, but...
Mark, considering that you have all Dragon/Kirin catalogues I was wondering if you could please help answer a question. I have been searching for Kirin's Russian Farmhouse kit (kits?) for literally over a decade to no avail (it's one of my 'holy grail' kits). In fact although I have most other Kirin diorama kits in multiples I have never even seen one of the abovementioned Russian Farmhouse kits. On that note I'm thinking that it may not have even been released...?
Anyway my query is; do you see mention of the Farmhouse kit/kits in any of your catalogues? And if so, could you please supply the kit reference number/numbers? I have a photo of the kit but no further info and thought that the catalogue might have some additional info...
Thanks!

I looked through the few Dragon Catalogues I have and can not
find the dio your looking for either.
Alex
Kirin's 1995 Catalogue has a Russian Farm House Cat # 25516.
Unfortunately all it says is the Cat# and that it is Hydrostone.

I checked I few that I have and in the 2003 catalog there is a busy diorama with a elephant and a few more vehicles and building but it doesn't really show the complete Dio . If I knew how to load a picture on here I would so you could see if it's what you're looking for .

Thanks for that info Bill - That's helpful intel!
I'd heard conflicting info suggesting that it was perhaps two separate kits that made up a single scene (like their European cut-stone bridge and Vietnam firebase kits), however the info that you've provided confirms that it was just one kit.
Now back to scouring the Earth to track one down!
Cheers,
Alex

Well....
The farm house is in the 94 and 95 catalogs and its shown in one piece with the one part number but there's a visible seam down the middle of it, similar to their other releases. The seam is also visible in the accompanying completed diorama picture showing it used.
Maybe they stopped selling them in parts?
I can relate to searching though. I finally got the Aquatic Diorama Base #1 after years of looking.
David,
I don't see what you describe in the catalogs I have. Was it maybe one of the old Tamiya catalogs?

Thanks for the further info Rob.
You could be right, or perhaps the scene was originally intended to be sold as two kits but wound up only being sold as a single one. Or maybe it was designed with a parts breakdown like that for packaging purposes (those Kirin boxes are small!).
I know the PBR base that you're referring to - It's a neat kit. It seems to be one of the rarer Kirin products but I've definitely seen a number of them on eBay over the years. On the other hand I've not seen one Russian Farm House, but I'm remaining hopeful that one will appear one day...
On that note has anyone out there ever seen one? #IwantToBelieve

Hi guys!
That's an interesting topic. I like the DML catalogues very much and have many of them at home, too. So I thought I'll join in your investigations.
Dave, as the others have stated, I too didn't find such a diorama. What I did find, however, is a drawing which comes very close to what you're referring to:
Congested road? Check.
Hummel(s)? Check.
More vehicles? Check.
This is a picture from the 1999 catalogue (p. 26). It's also in the 1998 edition and would most likely also be found in the very first catalgue (1992?), because the Hummel was their fourth ever release. As you can see, the image is cropped. Maybe there was a full/larger version in one of the earlier catalogues, but no diorama. In the left corner, you can make out a Panther, in the right an Elefant (probably). This would match with your later post, when you assumed it might have been an Elefant.
Maybe you mixed this drawing up with a different diorama in one of the catalogues?
Mark, before you do that, please let me know! I happily take them. In fact, I'll send you a PM in just a minute.
Great area to live I lived in Augsburg for seven years and it was a beautiful and great time there. Would go back within a heartbeat.
Interesting, I would love to see that diorama. Maybe there're different catalogues for different regions of the world after all. I got the 2003 edition, but couldn't find said diorama in its 23 pages.
Try imgur.com for uploading a picture, it's self-explanatory, basically. I'd highly appreciate it if you could arrange it. (I'm a big Ferdinand/Elefant nut. )
Cheers,
Johannes
