Do you guys spray just straight Future for a gloss finish or does it need to be thinned at all?

I spray it straight no thinning. A good idea to watch air pressure as it can puddle up very fast. Try around 12 to 15 psi.

This a steep learning curve for me too.
1. Once the future/kleer has been applied, do you buff it or just leave it as dried?
2. Can you apply it ok by any other method other than airbrush?
3. What with or how do you clean the airbrush afterwards?
Thanks
Cheers
Peter

I spray it straight up from the bottle via my airbrush. (It's too thin as is.)
Hi Peter,
1. Leave it as is.
2. I have applied it to small areas by brush. Never tried covering a large area with brush. (I probably wouldn't either)
3. It is acrylic based (?). I use hot tap water and diswashing detergent. Cleans up nicely.

Hey all, here goes.
1. Leave as dried, I do armor mostly. It serves 2 purposes 1, to give a uniform surface to apply decals to. Once decals are dry coat over the decal again with future. Also you get much better capillary action when you do your wash.
2. I've always airbrused the future coat but see no reason why a brush would not work.
3. For cleaning I first spray Aztec airbrush cleaner through my brush followed by a good amount of water. I've yet to have a problem this way.
Hope this helped and didnt confuse!

Hello again.
I found a bottle of future at my local supermarket in Riyadh. Now I'm armed with this liquid technical wonder...I have one more question....
I understand...
After painting the model in enamels (or acrylics)
Apply 2 coats of future and let dry each coat.
Apply decals and let dry.
Apply 2 more coats of future and again let each coat dry.
NOW...Applying dull coat...I use Humbrol matt varnish to finish...is this ok with future?
(I can only get the Humbrol stuff in Riyadh)
Thanks
Peter

Hi there
I spray Klear (Future) unthinned. Be careful to clean out the airbrush straight away, because the stuff dries quickly.
I usually don't bother spraying though - I apply the Klear with a brush. Holdfast wrote a great article on this: The Future Is Klear .
I usually polish the gloss finish to get a really smooth bed for the decals. I used to use a nail buffer, but then got some Micromesh polish cloths .
I've never had a problem applying a matt coat over Klear - I've used enamel and acrylics with no ill-effects.
Hope this helps
Rowan

Thanks Rowan,
I'm in the middle of a couple of kits and when the first one is ready for the paintshop I'll give the future a workout.
Thanks again
Peter :-)

In the new March issue of FSM, it talks about using Future for not only a gloss coat....but it can be used for a matt, super matt, or semi-matt/gloss coat. What you need is some Future floor wax...or since you are in the Netherlands its called Pronto Wax for wood floors, or Parket Plus...its all the same name just marketed under different names in different countries.
Anwyay...you need this stuff...and Tamiya Flat Base. What the base is for is to add to a color, or other acrylic substance...to make it flat.
Here are the ratios they give for it:
Straight Future - Gloss coat
1 part flat base and 3 parts future - Dead Matt
1 part flat base and 10 parts future - Matt
1 part flat base and 15 parts future - Semi-Matt/Semi Gloss
Hope this helps.....I haven't tried it as of yet....but it makes sence...and is cheap...as a bottle of future is like $4 - $5 and a bottle of Tamiya Flat Base is like $3 max....would be enough to last for a long time.

You know Viper, I never thought of using the Tamiya Flat Base. I have about 20 bottles of that stuff just sitting in a box in my "vault". Gonna try that tonight.
