Does anyone have or know a source of good reference photos for USMC M1A1 tanks in Afghanistan? I don't mean "action" shots showing the whole tank in the field (I have quite a lot of them in high resolution), but close up shots showing the specific details that have to be added to the regular M1A1 AIM kit, some of which are unfortunately completely obscured by crew gear in "action" photos. I know about the existing conversion sets, but I need to see all those details clearly on real thing photos.
Any help will be appreciated! I cannot tell you yet why I need it, but I'm sure some of you will easily guess

Hi, Pawel! You might try the "Wings And Wheels" series of books, or SQUADRON's "In Action" books. CONCORD may also have info on the M1 that may help you...

Thanks. Unfortunately the books you mentioned are relatively old, while I need information about tanks that were in A-stan between 2010 and 2013.

Well, it's not going to happen if I don't get better references... Copying other people work is not an option.

I'm making a trip to Legeune again soon (where I obtained a lot of my Cougar and Husky references) but I fear that won't do you any good. Not really sure what's going on with USMC Abrams upgrades.

I was about to suggest Dvidshub.net, but you probably know this source already...

Wish I could help, but only surfing the forums and web (as I am sure you have already done). Where are the Devil Dogs? LOL Following closely. Thank you for your work Pawel.

I'm afraid that all the Afghanistan specific mods were removed from the tanks once they returned home. But I also could use some pics of standard USMC parts, like intake snorkel adapter. Also if I had decent references for the new USMC commanders cupola, there is a chance that I could make a good use of it as well (even though it wasn't used in A-stan).

This is my latest which happens to be a USMC M1 in Afghanistan. It's all Tamiya, cobbled together from more than one kit, the dozer blade is a heavily modified Trumpeter blade from a Challenger II. The Afghan specific parts are from Perfect Scale Modellbau. The "Monster " decal is homemade. Still working on weathering and stowage.

Those links helped, I might try my hand at the M1 ABV, was that used in A-stan or Iraq?
