After quite extensive research, I've only been able to find photos showing clay tiles used for roofing in the Arnhem area in WW2. Does anyone know if they also used slates? I'm only asking as I have the slate mould from diorama debris and this would give me greater options than working with the clay roof tile set I have from miniart. I would have bought the clay tile set from diorama debris but it is out of stock and has been for some time. Thanks folks.

Probably your best bet is to send them an email to see when the mould's going to be back in . From your research it sounds as if they're clay tiles so it would be a shame to put the wrong ones on with them being so noticeable. I've only ever seen pics of clay tiles on rooves there.

Cheers, I've got my name down for when the tiles are back in stock. I've put this dio on the shelf for a while and am focusing on a few others (still market garden related).

Safe to say they used almost all ceramic tiles as there are no slate quarries near the town.
Sorry about your problem. Have you tried any simple casting with resin? I made a master for roof tiles and then cast a lot of them.

Ive had few attempts at casting and they have all been awful (50% model, 50% air bubble). These moulds would have been perfect.

Hi Paul,
The use of slate is very rare in the Arnhem area. Being close to many rivers, tile factories were, in those days, very common. Bricks and tiles were produced locally (that is why you see differences in brick colors in older houses in various regions in The Netherlands). Slate came from Belgium or Germany and was thus expensive. Certainly for city buildings.
So, you have to go for tiles

Miniart offers a tile roof section in vac form. I would still recommend the casting method. I can show you how to make a mold that will have minimal bubbles?

Cheers mate. I would be interested in seeing that. I have the mini art set but wanted the individual tiles for a damaged roof. Good news is that Ive been refunded by trackpads (thanks paypal!)
