Hi all

I'm on a bit of a Middle East armour thought process at the moment, building up a stash of stuff to build alongside my Israeli armour. Have found some decals for Egyptian tanks in unique camo but finding it difficult to pinpoint specifics on colours the Egyptians painted their tanks in. Would I be right in assuming most, if not all, the colours would be Russian in origin?

This depends heavily on the tank. A 1947 locust or Sherman would not use the same colours as a tank from 1967 or 1973.

Thanks Gareth.
Yeah I appreciate that would be the case - I'm not an idiot. Of course I'm talking about vehicles of Soviet/Russian origin used in the conflicts of the 60's & 70's

My understanding is that sand colours would have been the norm. I may very well be wrong though.

The M60A3, AIFV, & Caterpillar D9 I saw in the Sinai last year were all sandy yellow.

Sand, light sand, dark sand, faded sand. Pretty much covers it!

Shaun,
I suggest these two books from Concord:

I hope that helps.

Nobody told that but when you ask a precise question, you get more chance to have precise answers.
Instead of stating you're not an idiot, you'd better have apologized for being a bit vague.

These are for 60's and 70's... after that, I believe from 80's on, everything became just sand.

And Star Decals makes some decal sets for that period, like this..

Thanks Hisham
That was the set of decals I'd seen on-line which prompted a search for some references. I haven't found any details which made me wonder if they used similar camo colours as the Soviets/Russians

For what I have seen on photos, the sand color utilized on Egyptian tanks of Soviet origin should be very light and yellowish.
