I'm working on a couple of Tamiyas new 1/16 figures. And have some problems with translating Tamiyas XF-57 to Humbrol colors. According to my cross-reference it should be nr 168, but that is a semi-gloss color, so without having to involve matt varnish, is there any other color that is similar in the humbrol range that can be used.

I could use Tamiya colors, but I don't get the same good result with them as with Humbrols.

Hi Thomas,
I can't find any cross reference anywhere.
Tamiya XF-57 to Humbrol is always missing from any conversion table I've found.
But from a pic on the web it looks like it could be in the Humbrol light earth/stone shades.
I will check in the humbrol colour swatch book at home tonight and let you know tomorrow.
In the mean time...good hunting.
Cheers
Peter

Morning Thomas,
checked the humbrol swatch book and found no direct equivalent to Tamiya XF-57.
If you've any left you might paint a bit of scrap card and take it down to your local Humbrol stockist and see what is closest.
In the meantime I'll list a few possibles that might do if mixed.
No. 7 Gloss light buff
No 71 Satin Oak
No. 83 Matt Ochre
No. 93 Matt desert yellow
No. 94 Matt brown yellow
No. 103 Matt cream
You can shade lighter with white or darker with dark browns/black-greys.
Should keep you out of mischief for a while.

:-)
Good hunting
Cheers
Peter

Thomas I have some old Humbrol correspondance charts and it tells 2 different colors for Tamiya XF-57 in 2 catalogues.
one tells Humbrol 83 Matt ochre, the other says Humbrol 94 Matt Brown yellow.

Thanks for the help everyone. Going to try to get some time to paint this weekend, and see how it turns out. Perhaps using Tamiya color after all. But nothing decided.
