Hi guys! I need a little help. Has anyone used any of the Filters that are available from MIG, AK Interactive, or Ammo of MIG?

I'm just plain not sure how to use them, what the effect is supposed to end up looking like, or why I would want to use them. Hopefully someone here can give me a bit of a tutorial. I did find some YouTube videos but I'm not really sure they did much to help.

Thanks for the help!

For these filters, I apply after paint, prior to gloss coat and decals. I tend to apply a lighter filter on the top, and darker filter on sides and in shadow areas. I will also apply a different shade of filter on hatches and/or highlighted areas. I will also sometime apply a different shade to fenders, stowage boxes, etc.

The idea of the filter is to vary the base color(s) on the different areas of the vehicle.

I've used a few of them. You may want to apply a little to a scrap item to see how the effect looks on plastic. My first time out I applied one full strength and it was pretty dark -- I believe you can thin them out a bit more if necessary, and it will also make a bottle last longer.

Remember, a filter is not the same as a wash -- as Kevin said they are mainly to vary the tones of the paint job and help blend camouflage a bit. A wash usually works to make a vehicle look dirty or dusty.

I usually apply the filter after decals and a satin coat. This makes the white decals such as the allied white star blend in better. The main purpose of a filter is to tone down or move the overall shade of a paint job. Here's an example on a panzer I'm currently working on. Take note that this is just one application of blue based abeteilung filter. The heaviness of the white paint gets toned down a bit and gives it a different hue with just one layer.

Before the filter

After one layer of filter and some detail work
