I luckily picked up this kit for only $10 at a show, and I was impressed when I looked through the box. I then saw a discussion on this forum with several folks raving about the kit, and I do have this near the 'top of the pile'. My question is, does anybody make a PE set for this kit (I did not find on Eduard's site), and also does anyone make a metal barrel for this puppy? Its been many moons since I went to town on super-detailing a Tamiya kit, and I'm thinking this would be the one to do it with. Any feedback is appreciated, including if you think I should build it out of the box.

The kit actually a pretty good Tamiya release and the Lion Roar PE set definitely enhances details that are a touch soft or not included in the kit.

You might want to consider picking up the Modelkasten tracks too in order to get a realistic track sag.

If you use the barrel with the thermal jacket there is no aftermarket replacement. If you use the plain 105 mm you can replace it with the Leopard Club L7 "naked" 105 mm barrel.

For an older Tamiya kit is was ahead of it's time in a few ways...the inclusion of the deep water fording gear, the option for a winter crew and ski sets, and the ability to articulate the suspension as can be done on the real tank.

I have the Modelkasten tracks and they are significant improvement. Worth the moeny, honestly.

Modelkasten tracks were tedious to assemble but well worth the effort. The kit is very good, straight from the box, only minor point are the screens in front of the headlights... these are casted solid instead of with a mesh

No info (except you may have a hard time finding it as it appears to be discontinued...), but a few more pics :

The LionRoar set was rereleased not long ago. There ought to be some available still.
I read somewhere that someone was about to release an updated version of the Type 74 this year. Hopefully that will be incitement enough for someone to release a replacement barrel with the thermal jacket.

Might dislodge some of the Lion Roar sets into the marketplace as well.

Thanks all! Oh, and if anybody has a Lion Roar set to sell, let me know.
