Metal or vinyl window screen mesh. Cut it on the bias at about 2 inches wide and as long as you want/need. Use 1/8 tubing or rod as the poles and strips of metal foil for the fasteners.

You can use the plastic wedding vail stuff which you can P/U at any craft store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby. Just cut to desierd size, crazy glue to what ever type of poles you want and paint. Stuff is really cheap.

Another option you could try is the fine plastic mesh garlic bulbs are sold in. in it's 'natural' state it is very fine, but if you stretch it you can make the holes as big as you want. The holes have the proper diamond shape and because it's plastic it takes paint very well, at least the bits I did with Vallejo airbrushed on it.
I used it as chicken wire on helmets in both 1/35 and 1/16.

You could also try some automotive repar mesh (aluminium - I think). The metalic nature of it means you can "mold" it into a shape that it will hold and it also takes paint well.
On the downsideit is probably a wee bit too thick for totaly accurate scale thickness.

I agree with the posts above. When it comes time to paint it, mix silver enamel with flat white, and you get an excellent representation of the anodized anti-corrosion finish. Haven't tried this mix with acrylics, but it's worth a try.

You could also check out model railway supplies. 1/35 is pretty close to 'O' scale, yeah?
