I’m buying a used large scale (1:20) Accucraft Plymouth, but it’s a bright yellow and I’d like it to have a more industrial working look. I’ll attach an image of the engine (actually a more pale yellow than what I'm getting), as well as another one that is close to what I’m looking for. I want it to have the peeling paint look, and it’s well known that military modelers are way ahead of model railroaders in terms of getting realistic finishes. This is a brass engine, and I suspect the stock paint is baked-on enamel. I realize there are some masking challenges.
Let me know if potentially interested, and we can discuss the project and terms.

First thing, mask the clear parts. Then, spray with self-etching primer. Now, you have a base coat that sticks and can accept any type of paint.

I had never heard of self-etching prime, so searched it. Car guys are pretty specific that it's for bare metal only. They're also negative about any primer out of a spray can.

I guarantee self-etching primer will work.

so..you want someone to paint this for you right? Is that what your asking?
So your looking for someone to help paint this for you & weather it..ie- peeling paint etc.. It's already painted bright yellow & you want it weathered....or have the whole thing redone from scratch?
I agree with Matt..if the model is made of brass you will need to use "automotive self etching primer" to the metal parts. You can find this kind of primer at any hardware store in automotive paint section. It will say it right on the can "self etching primer".

Iain - I'm in Boston (the other one).
I'm familiar with that site, but didn't see anything relevant there - in terms of painting services. At least, there's no particular forum that seems appropriate.
easyco69 - I'm not planning to do this myself, so will leave the technique to whoever does it. I was hoping to find someone here, but if not will pursue model railroading resources, and if need-be will just weather the bright yellow myself.
Steve - you don't indicate what you're not understanding.
Also, I don't see how resending the email to your address will make any difference?

Steve - To put it simply, he wants a locomotive finished in yellow(the same as the top photo) to be painted and weathered in the same manner as is the bottom photo.

I don't see any highlighting - anyone else?
If by any chance you're talking about my EMAIL ADDRESS instead of the actual email, I've simply replaced some symbols with text. This is commonly done when posting to public sites in the hope that fishing software doesn't identify it as an email address, and capture it for evil purposes. However, this is so commonly done that one would think the fishing software has been adjusted to account for it?
Since you mention highlighting, I wonder if perhaps you included your own email address with this message, and KitMaker stripped it off for your own safety. That seems to be the only way that your highlighting comment makes possible sense.
