Hi Gang,
I noticed that theer are two version of the VAB Sanitaire(Ambulance). One with a small superstructure with episcopes on the roof and one without. What`s the purpose of the superstructure/turret?

The "turret" fitted with vision blocks is used to improve casualties spotting on the battlefield (it gives a better field of view), along with extra spotlights (front and rear) :

The louvered box beside it is the A/C unit.

In fact, there are not two but three variants of the VAB sanitaire.
Early one, depicted in the Azimut conversion, has the casemate and an A/C unit on the roof.
Intermediate version has the casemate removed and the A/C unit moved to the left side of the vehicle.
Late version has the same A/C unit as the intermediate plus the casemate fitted again.
For your information, the internal layout is different between the early variant and the following ones.

Thanks for the explanation. I saw a photo from you on Chars Francais that led me to the question. Do you mean the A/C unit is before the fuel filler?. Not sure if I build a Sanitaire, still stuck with my VTT. I hope that there will be another cooperation between Takom and Model Miniature.

Have a look at my site, I think I posted a series of pics some years ago.
The A/C is a bit rearward of the fuel filler.
