I've read a couple of rumours from other forums saying that Tamiya plans to release a 1/35 scale AMX-13 which, numerically speaking, should be the next kit in line after the Su-76m.

I find the rumour impossible to verify as I haven't seen any discourse about it in Japanese webspace, not even the fellows at 2ch were talking about it AFAIK.

Thus, any sort of confirmation or denial is welcome.

The source is Paul Owen at Track-Link and as I recall he has been accurate with his statements about Tamiya releases over the past few years.

This one was on FaceBook (IDF modelling group) hours before Paul Owen posted the news on Track-Link.

So, Takom or Tamiya, which to get?

Tamiya will be the easier build, and have nicer plastic, but Takom will offer probably offer more versions (the 3 announced) as Tamiya normally only offers a single boxing (often with parts/sprue gates for alternate options, but rarely releases them)

I may not be seeing things right but the Facebook group hasn't any post about it, perhaps they deleted it. If so, I'm curious where they got their information from, word spreads quite fast.

I wouldn't be too surprised when Tamiya eventually releases an AMX-13 but I wasn't expecting it to follow right after their SU-76m.

Funny, I've never heard any report about the Takom plastic not being very nice, or the Tamiya plastic being better than average.

Whether it was on Facebook or not, as Kurt has mentioned, Paul Owen has posted it on Track Link, and he has virtually always been correct about new Tamiya releases, usually because they appear on the listings from Tamiya's Canadian importer, Borgfeldt.

There are just to maney other fine subjects that are being released from the others; Meng,Takom,Tiger to name just A few! "Oh" And lets not forget Trumpeter, they Drop kits like A B-52. And the way the French Vehicle's are Popping we Better start Speaking French.

Funny,I can't say for sure whether it's psychological or not,but I do prefer the feel of a Tamiya and Dragon plastic over others, say Meng and AFV Club.

I would also be interested in checking out this coming release.

For me,I don't care what the "Kit of the year" is.All I am doing is enjoying having models of subjects I could have never have dreamed of having released or a nice better kit than one from 20-40 years ago.

This rumour may be true. According to some, Tamiya sent out emails teasing whatever new products they'll show at the Nuremberg toy fair, one being a new model of a French tank.

The more AMX-13s the better but much better if it were the FCM-36.

With the enrichment of the hobby being furthered enhanced by numerous 1/35 AMX releases, it will be nice to see Tamiya release one as well (just think of all those Heller kits going into the EBay fire sale bin ). Then watch the aftermarket spring out their wares in order to cut into that market for your modeling dollar (insert your country currency). When it's all said and done, we, the modeler, will have more versions of the AMX than ever imagined before and able to construct any version, from any period/war/region/user, than we can shake a copious amount of stick at!

Hopefully with the launch of the Tamiya and Takom kits, we might get some AM wheels, so I can upgrade the old, not-so-great Heller AMX-VCI with new wheels. Worse comes to worse, I'll pick up a sprue from Tamiya when the kit hits...

On scalemates.com I see a picture of what is an AMX 13 on a Tamiya stile box. The kit number is listed as 35349. I first saw it in a Dutch web shop (modelbouwverf.nl) with a price of Euro 49.99.
The Dutch army might have used this as well (saw one in the Cavalry Museum in my hometown) so I might be interested.

To my knowledge, the Dutch army used the 105mm gun tank which had a slightly different turret. The hull would be different from the Tamiya kit as well.

Can anyone tell me why this is so exciting?

It seems pretty far down on any list I've ever seen on a forum, if it's there at all.

I can think of many potentially more popular subjects...

I believe it is exciting because it is an interesting piece of cold war armor. Until only a couple of months ago it was only represented by Heller which by all accounts I have read sucked.

The AMX-13 is needed because:
1. The French built 7,700 in total.
2. It was exported to 25 countries.
3. There about over 15 differant variants built on the chassis.
4. The last kit of the tank released was by Heller 41 years ago.
5. It looks really cute.

6. The IDF used a bunch of them.
