Gents. Just letting ya'll know that the new Dragon 1/35th Sd Kfz 251 Ausf C kit is now out in the US. All I can say is "WOW". Super detail, optional parts, lots of accessories, 5 figures, and very nice decals by Cartograf. Even comes with a mini "poster" on back of box.

I'll let all the WWII armor fans deceide on the rest. A fantastic kit :-)

Go get one today !!!

I just bought the Tamiya version but I haven't opened it yet.... Does all of this mean that I need to take it back and buy the Sherman that I was looking at?

Thanks!

I will answer this bluntly.... yes!!!
The tamiya 251 C is old. Interior in the troop compartment is nowhere close to being accurate. Unless you are a scratchbuilder and you have the reference materials, return it.
Although, i have yet to finish mine yet, (subtle hint), i have noticed some parts that do not seem to fit the best.
It is up to you though.
As for photo references , i have the Squadron 251 in action, and Osprey's 251 book, they all only really deal with the different types and exteriors only. There is not to many interior shots that i have found.

Smart move returning that Tamiya kit. It's ok, if you get it for $10 buck or so, but so far it is my least favorite Tamiya kit. Not just because of details but fit and finish as well. Just really a poor kit and badly in need of updating, which Tamiya doesn't seem willing to do. Now if SOMEBODY, are you listing DML, AFV Club, Academy, will do a good kit of a American halftrack. You'll probably sell a ton of them.

If you look at the parts break down of the 251C, you know DML would release an A/B very soon. As the engine compartment floor is a separate piece, change it can make a different nose. That is for making an A/B, otherwise it will be mold into the lower hull.

So, I know that the old Tamiya 251 C is really bad. I made two back when they were pretty much the only option out there. But what about the Tamiya 251 D?? The one with the troops jumping off of it? I picked that up at my local store, because they had it on sale (obviously due to the new interest in the great DML version).
I have just started to buuild it, and besides the DML figures not fitting it at all, it seems like a really good kit. Is there anything to be weary of with the Tamiya D?

Hi Steve o well I hate to tell you this but AFV Club is bringing out a 251D very soon like ,should be seeing it within the month... Where does that leave our Tamiya kits?? well I think the spare parts bin will be a good place for them ... They aren't that bad but apparently the dimensions are off and they really are missing alot of details ..So hurry up and build it before you see the other one on the self ...lol

The DML 251 C kit is a heck of a kit! I picked mine up this week.

The AFV Club suspension might be a bit more detailed in a couple places, but ya gotta use a magnifying glass to find them. With DML and AFV Club both producing 251's, we'll be able to build any 251 varient ever produced.

Hi

I have a couple of the Tamiya 251 Ds with AFV club replacement tracks and running gear. How is the kit off dimensionally?

From what I've read it's not too bad in terms of basic dimensions etc. I have the ML tweak list, and that deals mainly with running gear. I'm not saying the D from AFV Club isn't welcome, but I wasn't aware of the Tamiya D being so bad.

Cheers

I'm not too familiar with the 251 series either ,but I'm sure if AFV Club took the time and money to do another kit it will be worth it..I know the interior is very simpified on the Tamiya kit ,so I'm sure that they will have put alot of emphasis on that ..and as you say the suspension and wheels will be much better not to mention the tracks...I'm sure I'll be picking up a few of these when the come out ...They have also announce a late 251/9 so that will be cool ..and I noticed that they are going to produce a new 75 mm cannon....Could someone say 251/22 maybe??? How cool would that be!!!
