I have exclusively been building 1/35 scale models for the last 15 years or so - And thought it would be fun to try building a couple of small scale (1/72) models again...

As I have absolutely no idea of how the range of the 1/72 scale products is – I now ask you:

What is the best manufacturer on 1/72 modern armoured vehicles today?

And can anyone recommend a specific model… Or two???

I only build in 1/35 scale, but I heard that recent releases of 1/72 modern armor kits from Revell of Germany are very good. Some of them are scaled down Tamiya kits (M2A2 Bradley), but others are their original works and are supposedly of very high quality.

I'm betting that they are just like 1/35 - if you get the re-boxed old versions they will leave something to be desired. If you can get your hands on the new releases they have been pretty nice.
I've done a couple and they've been nice.

I play along with Vodnik, I bought some Revell kits in 1/72 scale (those with both armour and soldiers sets) and well I was impressed with the quality of details in such small scale models... and the soldiers are all different!!! Yes it's true none of them here copies of each other!! All diferent- The one I've bought had also horses, and they were also different...
About others, I've also bought a Tiger from Heller and the only advantage was the low price because the quality, oh my god... what a disapointment...

See yaaa

hi! personally I like most revells and italeris. They both make good models with good qualities And hasegawa make great models but quality isn`t so good. The best 1/72 model what I think is revells Panzer IV ausf. H!!! I liked that very much

Well, in the 70's I built a lot of Hasegawa 1/72 and Airfix. (couldn't not afford too many Tamiya at that time)

When I return to this hobby lately, I only buy 1/35. But I still love 1/72, only that I know my eyes and fingers are not good enough to handle it.

But as far as I know, Revell produces some of the best 1/72 out there. Recently DML also has some attractive offering, and they are catching up fast in quality. (they are also going to release 1/144 kits later!)

Thanks for the replys!!!

I guess I'll try a revell or italeri 1/72 model!

Anyone know a web site with some galleries of 1/72 scale models???

And do any of you have some photos of finished 1/72 models you would like to post here?

it would be great to see what is possible in this scale!

The 1/72 scale Italeri kits are the former Esci kits. Some are good, others not at all. Best is to ask about a specific kit. A few of the early Revell of Germany kits are re-boxed 1/76 Matchbox kits as well. The later kits are superb. The modern German armor and the StuG 40 are really nice. Also there are some nice kits from Trumpeter, PST, ExtraTech, and Roden that will help you round out your collection of Braille scale kits.

I've just bought the ExtraTech M36 Jackson and Revell T-34/85, both are great kits.

Hi Clausen,

Welcome to Braille Scale! I'm also a 1/72 convert. Some of the Italeiri 1/72 kits are re-boxed ESCI kits. They are pretty good and inexpensive. If you really want excellent modern AFV's, try the 1/72 Revell AG AFV's. They have great detail and excellent fit.

To see some of my work, just go to "my gallery".

Revell is your best bet-
I'd stay away from the DML 1/72 kits. I just built a DML 1/72 Panther G - it has a diecast metal upper hull- there were fit problems.
There are enough Revell 1/72 to keep you busy for a long time!

WOW! How do you guys paint those figures? I don't do that well in 35th scale. I have built the Airfix 76th scale Ambulance since I got back in, and really enjoyed it, even though it is an ald kit. And I have about 20 more in the stash.
