Hi all
What gauge wire do you guys use when replacing moulded grab handles/hand-holds/equipment tie-down loops on 1/35 tanks/AFV's?
And also lifting handles on engine decks etc?

I normally use .020in (.051mm) brass rod.

Depends of course on the diameter of the actual item, tie down loops being much thinner in general than a hand hold would be . I've had good luck salvaging the copper windings from small electric motors such as you might find in cheap RC cars. Straighten out a section by rolling in between two flat surfaces and you're good to go.

For tie downs I use 0,3 mm-Wire (some wine bottles have a mesh around their neck. This might come close).

For everything else - as Sean said - it depends on what you want to replicate. Hold a piece of wire against the model and you will get a good idea whether it fits or not.

happy modelling Michael

Yeah, what they said.... In my hurry to rush the typing I was only thinking standard sized grab handles. I use the brass rod as much as I can. It's stiffer and will hold it's shape better than copper wire.

Thanks gents. All responses very much appreciated. I have something to work with next time I see the K&L stand at the LHS.

Cheers
