Hello
New user here
I am in Iraq and I came across the following US tanks that the Iraqis had at their Republican Army Armor Training Base.
I have many pictures.
I will try to attach the link, if it doesn't work look for 4ea pics titled "found in Iraq" in the pics section.
Enjoy

IROC:
Welcome to the site and thank your for sharing your pictures. We could have used you a few months ago when a Sherman showed up on NBC nightly news in U.S. markings. Probably some GI thought it looked better in OD than desert sand.
Again, welcome to the site, stay safe.

Welcome irocarmy88! Glad to have you here with us!
Those 'guntruck' photos will come in real handy! There was a discussion not too long ago about the use of GTs in OIF. I'm sure that those pics will be well received here! Got a couple of GT experts with us.
Stay safe and if you happen to have any mortars laying around... send them my way!

Welcome to Armorama and thanks for the pics.
Mr. Roo: It's an Carro Veloce L3/35 second series manufactured by Ansaldo/Fiat from 1935 to 1938. It's an evolution of the English Crden Lloyd tankette of thew late 20s.
There went plenty of these used by the Regio esercito in N.A. during WWWII. If you want to see more of it you can go to my site www.cavalleriaitaliana.it and follow the link Mezzi > Carri Leggeri > L3-35
Ciao

Thanks for the pics mate, I hope you and the rest of your unit come back safe and sound.
As both a Museum professional and soldier I hope that those WWII vehicles found in Iraq stay there and that there is no thievery on behalf of any Allied forces there.
It's important to keep those vehicles there. . heck, how are our scale modelling buddies in Iraq going to get up close and personal to something which they want to make a model of? ;-) We can often take for granted having some great WWII vehicle collections in the West, those vehicles deserve to be treated correctly - placed indoors away from the elements and treated with modern conservation techniques to ensure their survival. (stop Museum related rant here!) haha. :-)
Aussies fought against Italian L3/35's (both normal MG and flamethrower versions) in the Western Desert from 1941-1942. In particular at the taking of the Italian fortress's of Bardia and Tobruk in January 1941. My pop was one of those diggers
:-)

Hello
Thanks for the kind words. I don't know what will happen to the vehicle, atleast they are on our base and protected from looters. If they were still in the Iraqi base they would be in parts. One of the tank Destroyers had this great armor system for the open turret, it was made of a series of hatches. I took many photos of those hatches. I will try to re-size the photos to post them soon.I can e-mail them to those that need them.

Hello everyone.
I'm in Iraq with the US Army, my job or MOS is Chemical Operation. However, I also do Civil Affairs, Security Detail and Force Protection. Half my time is in a office, no war hero here. My year will be finished in March and I hope to go back to Fort Hood, Texas.
SCOCCIA:
I have a couple more photos on the L3/35 and I can get more easily. The interior is mostly gone, a unit is using the tank for their entrance display.
Thanks
Rich

My year will be finished in March....
Is that still being refered to as being a "Short timer" and/or "Two-Digit-Midget" in today's army? (Remember those terms Dave (Animal)?)
Be safe, come home safe!

I sure do. I even had and carried my short timers stick with me everywhere I went. I have it still to this day.

IROC - Thanks for telling us about these. The M36B1 is especially rare, only 187 built. If you get a chance, can you get the serial numbers off the M36, M36B1, and M24? Contact me at [email protected] and I'll tell you were to look.
Thanks,
KL

Rich, I for one would certainly like some pics of the armored roof. Looks much like a WWII design.
If you do get some shots, please PM or email me.
Thanks a ton.
