Can anyone tell me the colour of The berets worn by the Bundeswehr Tank crew during the late sixties?
I have the Verlinden NATO tank crew figures and want to use them in the new Revell Leopard 1 kit.
Many thanks, guys.

just google "panzertruppen bundeswehr" and you will see many pictures.
the color is most likely black, which is the color for many tank crews worldwide.

Thanks, Paul.
But thats my problem. I get pictures of black, green (Various shades) and even red berets. I'm just not sure which is which.

At that date the tank crews wore the same beret color as their uniforms were, a kind of light OD. In general Bundeswehr uses following beret colors.
- Black: Panzer and Panzeraufklärer
- Green: Infantry and Panzergrenadiere
- Blue: Medical Corps
- Maroon: Fallschirmjäger
- Red: Artillery, Military Police, Maintenance and several
minor branches.

More pics to help you answer your question. Even with B&W images you can tell that the berets are the tan coloured and not black in these 1965 images.

Brilliant explanation HH, much appreciated.
It also confirms Jasons photograph above.

In the late 60's the German tankers wore two different black berets. One was actually a helmet, the other was a soft service beret. They were a hot trade item when I was in 2/68 Armor in 68-69 Baumholder.
