Today I finished my M109A6 model. I actually finished it a few months ago, but it waited on a shelf for final weathering touches that I finally added today.

I started this model LONG ago - before AFV Club announced their Paladin kit, but after they released the M109A2 kit. As a result this model combines parts from Italeri Paladin (turret shell, gun travel lock parts) with AFV Club parts (hull, main gun and some turret details) and Riich tracks. I used parts from Eduard photoethed set, tie down loops from Arms Corps and added a lot of scratch built details to either replace poor Italeri parts, or modify the AFV Club hull to A6 configuration (interestingly some of these modifications will also be needed in AFV Club Paladin, as they missed some differences between A2 and A6 hulls).

As I plan to build AFV Club Paladin in a firing configuration, I built this one as it could look after some time in a motor pool.

I hope you like it.

I've worked on a lot of M109A6 when I was a contractor at Ft. Sill and I must say.. That looks absolutely real. I can't believe my eyes. Amazing amazing job sir. I have one of these in the stash, and I could only hope it looks half as good as this. Job well done.

Hey Pawel that is awesome and agree with Dustin on how it looks so real. That's one of the best paint and weathering I've seen in some time. Today all you see is way over chipped/washed models. I started two years ago that were never finished...now after looking at yours I might have to find them.

What paint did you use, Tamiyas NATO colors?

Happy Modeling,
Joe

Well, sort of. I use Tamiya Red Brown instead of NATO Brown (which IMO is too... red... ), but the other two were indeed Tamiya NATO green and NATO black. But I lightened all three colors significantly.

Can you give any insight as to how you did the camo? I've been shying away from my NATO camo models because I'm nervous to try it.

Joe,

I watched your "how to three time NATO camo" video. Very helpful sir.

Thanks Dustin...it was the second video we did at the shop, a bit camera shy, wish it was better.

Wow, GREAT work! At some time, I want to do a Paladin, but quite sure I wouldn't be able to come close to the level of work you did. Congratulations!

Vodnik,

Fess up, you photo-shopped pictures of real Paladins!

Incredibly life-like in ALL aspects, especially the anti-slip with paint and a touch of weathering, making it the most realistic I think I've ever seen.

I salute you, sir!

Very nice result Pawel.

It is refreshing to see a realistic finish on a modern AFV.

Not much... I've actually already thrown away the Italeri parts.
