I have had a look through some various articles one in particular detailing the upgraded version which according to the article took 10 years to develop, There's no mention of any changes between the initial release of the M9 up until the most recent upgrade.
You might be safe in building this as a Desert storm example given the camouflage diagram cover from MERDC all the way through CARC sand and NATO three tone which gives me the impression there weren't changes made to them through the years.
Hope that helps I'll keep digging around unless some one here knows more.
Cheers Ben

Hi Peter,
the M9 ACE has the reputation of being the vehicle with longest evaluation and testing time. It started in the 1950`s but was suspended many times due to cost issues and the "restarted" under a new designation. I wrote once an article for a German magazine. I knew the vehicle inside out and I don`t think that there were many changes since Desert Storm. Although I must confess that I haven´t seen the real thing since about 10 years.

I got curious about the M9 and did a quick search on DIVIDS site. THe USMC did some improvements in the track, but mostly internal. Improved controls and more reliable engine and transmission components. The only external changes are done by adding several cameras to give 360° situational awareness and LED lights. Hmmm... which AM companies do the modificatiosn??

The photo below shows some of the external improvements made (e.g. cameras and LED lights).

I received mine from Luckymodel today. It is a thing of BEAUTY!! Going to build it soon. So much better detailed than my $100 Hobby Fan resin M9 kit. I may use the Takom kit to update the resin one. Have fun y'all!

I have to ask: since you mention the Takom kit is better than the HF kit, why would you want to "waste" the kit and use its parts on the lesser HF kit? Does the HF kit have anything over the new kit?

Haha! No, I would not "waste" my Takom kit. Let me rephrase: I will be using the Takom kit as a reference to update the HF kit by making my scratch-built parts. The HF kit's only advantage is the less part count. That's about it.

Sounds like a job for Legend or DEF Model!

Does the Hobby Fan kit have a hollow part where the driver goes or do you have to drill the resin out?
There was a big chunk of resin to drill out and cut under the hatch. It was a pain (and a health hazard)...
