Hi,
I just finished M48A3 and M41. Now, I'm looking for idea to build a diorama for these tanks. Please let me know your idea. I'm thinking of Khe Sanh valley or Battle of Hue. What do you think?
M48A3 Patton
M41 Walker Bulldog
Tanks are on the way!!!
Sorry for pictures' quality. I had my camera repaired but still not working as well as before.
Thanks for watching

Nice builds, couple of things tho. Americans didn't use the M41 only ARVN, so markings are wrong. Also, the 50 cal. on the M48 was either in cupola or on top, never both as far as I know. Hope this helps, Wayne

I agree with Wayne. If you still want to add punch to your M48, you can change the markings and a few details and put two .50 Cal. Brownings on the cupola
Here's a period picture of C-23 (which belonged to Charlie Company, 2nd Platoon, 1st Tank Battalion USMC) at Da Nang in February 1970 :

If you are looking for an action where you can place both of these tanks in once scene, I think its gotta be Hue with a Marine M48 and an ARVN M41. Possibly one passing the other along a road? That would give a chance for the crews to interact as they drive by, like a wave of the hand or something. Or stopped next to each other and comparing maps or passing over drinks or smokes, etc.

This is M41A1 so the ARVN didn't use it, I think. But thanks for the tips.

I'll think about it when I modify my M48A3, thanks.

Good idea, Paul. I'll build another diorama with your idea. Thanks.
Hi
This is diorama for my M41. Just update for comments to make it better.
And I put M41 on it...
... And M48
It's not completed yet. Hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for watching.

HI! NICE JOB! The revetments are a good idea, I think IMO. The only thing that I would do differently as far as the sand bags are concerned is change the colors. US sand bags are made of a distinctly lighter colored Olive Drab, closer to POLLY SCALE Soviet Khaki, and they fade in color rather rapidly when exposed to the weather. They are also not uniform in color, varying very widely in different shades.
I think you did VERY WELL with these older TAMIYA kits. Your idea of placing your vehicles as seen during the Tet Offensive in your country is very apropos...

Bao,
Is that a commercially available base or did you scratch build it? It does look quire realistic, I must say.
I like emplacing vehicles like this when doing bases but it can be difficult to find photos of a revetment _without_ a vehicle in it so one can see how it's put together and what the features are.
Does anyone know of a site or reference that has information on how emplacements like this are nominally supposed to be constructed? An Engineering Field Manual or a site of photos of the period?

The Osprey book on Vietnam Firebases has some good pictures and diagrams of some different style emplacements. Wayne

Yes, It is a commercially available base but you have to build it. I bought it 2 days ago. This is my 2nd diorama. Please leave your comments. Appreciate that.
These are my dioramas for M48s/M41

Be careful not to put WW2 stuff in your Vietnam dio, like the German 200L. fuel drum or the German Army nurses....
Here's the German drum I'm talking about :

If I may comment on the black wash you've applied over the bases, I think it's too heavy. There really shouldn't be large areas of solid black. The wash is supposed to accentuate the detail and not be a separate colour on it's own as it is here.

Actually, I'm thinking of the lighter wash, too. Appreciate your comment, Paul.
These are my new figures so far, 1st cavalry and ARVN rangers but I use Tiger tripe camoufalge to present the VIETNAM MARINES CORPS (VNMC). Just put some 1st Cavalry on dio.
And M41 with figure
Please let me know your idea. Many thanks.

As mentioned previously, the US did not use any version of the M41 tank in Vietnam, though it was the primary tank used by South Vietnamese forces for much of the war. The only light tank used by American forces was the M551 Sheridan. You could use your M41 in a training simulation elsewhere in the world where US force operated, like the Philippines or Panama.

Since your M48 has Marines markings you need to switch out the 1st Cav figures for some Marines figures. The DML Marines Tet and Khe Sanh sets would work. Wayne
