G'day, well just got back from the Hobby shop, buying stuff for my B-day, i bought Academys M113 Vietnam, looks like an EXCELLENT kit, lots of variations and extras, i bought some figs and accesories for tanks, and i also bought AFV clubs M41 Walker bulldog vietnam version, this looks like a great kit, but in the section of the instructions where it shows where you put the decals on, it has different armys and divisions markings for it, 3 of which are the ROC Marines, what is this, what are the ROC Marines? cheers

Hi, Manchu

ROC = Republic of China

Republic of Korea is ROK

Some history here: Republic of China is formed when they overthrown Ching Dynasty (that was, ruled by Manchurians or Manchus ; -))in 1911. When the Nationalist Party lost the civil war in 1949, ROC retreated to Taiwan, and Mainland China is ruled by the Communist party, and becomes the PRC.

Until 1973 ROC was still considered the only legitimate regime in China, when President Nixon started the diplomatic relationship with PRC.

Then PRC replaced ROC as the legimate regime, and replaced the position of ROC in the UN, it maintained that there should be only one China, and Taiwan is part of China, though temporary it is not ruled by them. So today the terms ROC is seldom used internationally, as the use of this terms will imply "another China", and PRC will protest. In most case people just say Taiwan.
