Well to start off I would like to know what you are going to do for the dio. Second, I am not sure but I don't think there were any M-113s at Khe Sanh. Khe Sanh, if memory serves me corrrectly was a fire base up in hilly terrain. Therefore, I don't think that they would be responsible for armored reconaissance or anything like that. I'm sure that someone will either confirm or deny this as its still early where I am (7:30 am). Hope this helps and post the idea.

LWF,

Khe Sanh was a Marine operation, so the chances that (Army) M113s were there during the seige are very slim. Don't know for certain, but I do highly doubt it.

Hi,

I believe there were M113s belonging to the relief force. I would have to look at my references to see if they were US or RVN vehicles.

Lestweforget, Phoenix-1 is correct Khe Sanh was a fire base. Here is the suprise the Marines had 5 M-48s and two Ontos platoons from the 3rd Tank and Antitank Battalions. They also used the M-274 Mule which mounted a 106mm recioless gun for fire support as well. I have not found anything yet on M113 either American or ARVN. Source for the information Armor in Vietnam by Jim Mesko (squadron/signal publications) Hope this can help you out. Look forward to seeing the dio.

Damn, he, i was really looking forward to wacking the academy M113 that i am egtting for my b-day in oh well, i am also getting an M-48 so i have that possibility, ok i will wack in the M-48 instead then, now would they have dug in the M-48's, would it be ok to have it sitting behind a sand bag wall that will go accross most of the dio?
I will have to put AFV clubs M-41 walker bulldog in my Tet offensive di then instead of the M-48
thanks for that guys, cheers
Oh, did the 3rd Tank battalion have any special insignia then? cheers

I did some research on the RVN contribution to Operation PEGASUS (relief of Khe Sahn). They had one airborne brigade which did airland some troops into Khe Sahn, and two infantry battalions that moved up Route 9 with the Marine ground force. However, I could not find any reference that the RVN infantry battlions had M113s or that they made it to the perimeter. Sorry.

Lestweforget, According to my book the armor was used in static emplacements. The M-274's were mobile and I wouldn't be surprised if one or two M-50 Ontos were as well. I don't have any information on unit insignia but I think most Marine armor markings were few and far between. I have not seen any pictures with unoffical markings, does not mean they didn't exist though. If I find out anything helpful I will let you know.

Check out the 25th Inf Div photos on google. They used a whole lot of M-113's. We had them all around the perimitter with the M-42 dusters during the 68 Tet offensive at Cu Chi. I will see if I can find some photos for you. I have my 25th Inf Div. Year book from Cuchi. I will try to scan some photos of the APC in action for you.
