Hi all,
I read that the numbering of panzer kompanies was:1st kompanie-green ; 2nd kompanie -red; 3rd kompanie -white. Apparently the white was later changed to light blue with yellow outlines?
Does anyone know when exactly this change was made and whether Tigers of the 3rd kompanie 101st Heavy Pz Abt in Normandy carried the new blue numbering?
Thanks!

Hi Mike,
According to Wolfgang Schneider's "Tigers in Combat II" (though expensive, both volumes are a very worthwhile investment if you have any interest in the subject), when the 101. schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung received 25 new Tigers in April 1944 (late production with steel roadwheels), the third company changed the color of their numbering as the white numbers they had used previously were too visible.
So, yes, by the time of the Normandy battles the numbers used by third company were blue with a yellow outline, as you said.
Have fun
Jerry

Thank you! I really appreciate the help! I have just bought Wolfgang Schneiders "Tigers in Normandy" so am waiting for that to arrive but will definitely invest in the "Tigers in Combat" too. The Tiger ops in Normandy are an area I know very little about.
