Hello all,

My question is regarding the periscopes on the Meng Model BMPT Terminator. Should the periscopes be tinted clear blue on all sides or just the front side, visible to the viewer?

Also, any ideas on what the best color to paint the area behind the periscopes is? Should it be darker to give an impression of depth or lighter so you can see that the periscopes are clear? (I can't decide between hull red or sand)

Thanks!

Hi;

As for your first question; Are your Periscopes Clear plastic, if so then there are quite A few Different ways.
If Clear, then paint the inside of the Housing Silver and then use Tamiya Clear Blue, make sure that you thin Down the Blue by Half and Not Straight from the Bottle.
Again Check your References, Periscopes are Coated optics and will change colors at Different Angles, for Larger optics or Glass Surfaces its really Hard to make them Look Accurate.

Thanks, Mike. I am using Tamiya clear blue and learned the hard way about thinning it. Why do you say silver, if I may ask?

PS: periscopes are clear plastic

Hi;

Again its A Choice you like, and it depends on the kit in question. Some like to paint the inside of the frame or Well that the Clear plastic fits into, and some like to paint the Backside of the periscope Silver or even White !!
Try A Test on A Scrap and see which one You like the Best.
Another method is the Craft Store method; which you can purchase Different Shades of Clear Materials, cut to size and glued in-place ! Making Periscopes look Accurate or real is A Fine Art and is really Hard to Acheave.

Thanks! So white or silver are definitely better options than dark colors?
