Hi all
I've just got the Op telic Challenger 2 from Trumpeter and I'm a bit confused about the colour, the instructions say 80% gunze 313 and 20% white.According to the references I have Gunze 313 = Humbrol 121 light stone. Now adding 20% white to light stone is going to leave you with an off white paint job.I've been looking round at various places and some say a mix of Humbrol #74 linen with #94 Matt brown yellow.I personally think that #81 matt pale yellow is a reasonable match. Your opinions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
All the best
Pete

From what I know they are painted in Sand. But Sand is a very vague terms here. From the photos I saw the color tends to be more yellowish than most sand colors in the bottle. (I have been working in the imaging trade for more than 15 years, and I can tell you you can't be sure of the real match in a photograph, but I can judge the difference from the colors of surroundings)
My guess is that Tamiya Dark Yellow is close, but a bit darker and yellowish.
I painted my Op-Telic Chally2 (old Trumpeter one with AA conversions) with Vallejo Middle Sand, but I add little yellow to it.
The sand coat weathered vey fast in the desert operations, and the underlying green/black shown thru, while the the vehicle is always covered with sand, so if you want to do some real looking weathering, I guess a perfect match is not that important.
