I'm pretty sure that tanks were allocated a number from the squadron sequence but didn't include any code as to the troop.

From what I've been able to work out the letter is the squadron identifier and the tank s are just 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 etc.
The high numbers come from replacements

I thought so too but say its a 4 tank troop 3 75's and a FF the numbers don't line up?? That is why I am curious, I think the whole of Canadian 4th Armoured used Numbering but cant find the breakdown anywhere.

Well one option is to go to the Armoured Acorn site and look at the Canadian Vehicle Markings section and see if there is a pattern to the markings for those regiments.
There may or may not have been a brigade level scheme for the integration of the Fireflies into the regiments. It may have been done at the regimental level and so may be harder to spot a pattern based on the relatively small number of vehicles represented in Barry's documents.
Not much help, but you might find something.
