Today I took a look into the box of Revell's Spähpanzer 2 "Luchs" A2 1/72 kit. I noticed one great idea used there to get accurate tread pattern on Michelin tires in plastic. Instead of usual way of molding the wheel in two halves, wheels in this kit are molded in three parts, with two "faces" and a "slice" of wheel in the middle. Thanks to such parts split it was possible to mold accurate Michelin XL tires tread pattern in plastic - impossible to do using just two part wheels (good examples are ugly plastic wheels in Italeri 1/35 M923A1 and HEMTT kits). Sure, is more work to assemble each wheel, but I'm sure results are worth it. I wonder why no-one uses this simple idea in 1/35 kits. We could save a lot of money we now spend on resin wheels...

Great idea in 1/72 kit - why not in 1/35?...
