hey all well, i remembered a modelor at an expo i was at recently, telling me how to make the static grass stand up, some or most of you may have your own ways of doing this but for those of you who dont:

1. mix water with white glue 50:50

2.sprinkle static grass over glue mixture until the white glue is covered and cannotbe seen.

3. let the glue harden for 6 minutes then, get an old make up brush or paint brush, and gently brush forwards and backwards over the drying static grass therefore you will be standing up the grass with the brush strokes , and also standing them up using static electricity.

thats it, enjoy

Hi Matt

That sounds like a good idea. Great timing to, I'll be laying down some static grass the first part of the week. I'll give this tech a try.

I just gently blow across it. Stands up on it's own.

I always "launch" my grass into the glue using an old shampoo bottle, after that I hang my diorama upside down...let gravity do its job. a few gentle blows when it hangs upside down and that grass stands up beautifully.

Here's another technique for static grass, provided you're not bald! After laying or spraying down your static grass, pass your comb through hait a few times to build up a static charge on the comb, and then pass it closely over the grass. The static will make the grass stand straight up. You will have to comb your hair quite a few times to do a diorama, but it will improve your personal grooming.
P.S. Static grass works OK for small scales - 1/72, 1/76, HO, and even S, but I find it too short , unless you're doing a golf course diorama. It's too short and uniform for country-side grass.
