Hello gents,
the wait is over, I have finally recieved a package from Hong Kong, containig the new AMX-30B2 from Tiger Model. I wanted to build this kit for years, firts I intended to use the atrocious Heller kit with a resin conversion, but gladly I decided to wait more.
I would like to start with a quick first impression/ in-box review. I apologize for the poor photo quality, we have a rather dark winter.
Note that there is also a 20mm METAL gun barrel included, that I have not managed to take a photo of due to it being dark outside. But it has really nice details and it is neat that you don't have to buy it aftermarket. Concerning the main gun barrel, I find this an interesting solution, but I still don't inderstand the reason for this complex moulding. This model was obviously intended for experienced modellers.
As you can see, the details are extremely sharp and Tiger models has greatly increased the product quality compared to their previous models. The moulding is almost on par with the likes of Tamiya and Meng, definitely superiour to the new Trump/HobbyBoss models. I saw minimal flash on the indy links.
The kit is nor over-engineered, I will update on the fitting when I start building.
I have no idea on how accurate the model is, I will be mostly comparing it to the following excellent walkaround:
http://www.primeportal.net/tanks/jean_thomas_rembert/amx_30_b2_brennus/
If you have any other links to good references, please share them with me.
I gradually intend to scrutinize this kit and attempt to correct any potential quirks or omissions. The first thing I noticed is that the ERA blocks need to be cut apart. If you find any mistakes or inaccurancies on the model, please share them with me.
Conclusions, for now:
PROS: it exists.
Great moulding, 2 metal gun barrels, indy links.
Paint scheme with MIG an Tamiya paint codes.
CONS: instrunction layout was insipired by Tamiya, too much.
Gradually, I will be updating this review as I build along. When I get some daylight, I will do a comparison of the Tiger Model and the Meng AUF-1 lower hull.

Perhaps you should read the comments? He clearly states the 20mm barrel is metal!

This post has piqued my interest in the Brennus. To be honest, I did not even know of its existence until now. Looks like one to add to my stash. I look forward to your blog.

Dear all, its time for a small update before going down under for a month.
I blame my lack of progress entirely on this blog and its negative influences it has had on me. Now I have to replicate all the missing weld lines and replace every grab handle. http://armorama.com/forums/213731#1796082
I started working on the lower hull. Because of the absence of side skirts extensive surface work is required. There are ejector pin marks, sink marks and tool marks, all to sand and to fill in.
Now onto the wheels. Here is a brief comparison with the corresponding Meng parts. I will do more side-to-side photos as I progress.
It is not all that visible, but in my opinion the Tiger model roadwheels are slightly better. Not by a lot. The rest of the suspension is not done yet.
I also started work on the ERA blocks. They are nicely represented, but require some nudging.
Luckily i didnt have to cut the whole thing apart, just do some sawing and sanding in between. Frankly, they could have done a better job on them. The turret is going to be quite entertaining.
For last, here is a close-up of the co-axial cannon. Very nice part, in my opinion it requires no replacement.
Next update in a month, hopefully.
