I'm getting ready to upgrade to a newer airbrush and after a lot of researching and talking to others that the one that I'm going to go with is the Iwata Eclipse HP-CS. Just looking for a bit more input from others that have this particular AB and what are your likes as well as dislikes.

Well, that certainly made things a bit clearer. Anyone have another type of air brush that they could re commend?

Tony,
What was it in Don's review that made you think your choice of the Eclipse HP-CS might not be a good one? With that info we should be able to point you towards something that will meet your needs.

Hey fella,

I have an Iwata Eclipse HP-CS and i will say, its the best investment towards modeling i ever made. I also have an Neo by Iwata, an Iwata HP-Plus, a Paasche H with no.1, 3 and 5 needle/nozzles and a Badger 150. The Eclipse will do nearly EVERYTHING the other Airbrushes will do....the other airbrushes WILL NOT do all that the Eclipse can do. SO, i no longer use the badger 150...JUNK, Ive loaned out the Paasche H, i use the Neo for Primer and Clear only just to limit any wear on the Eclipse and the HP-plus, well...its a sweet AB, but it rarely sees the light of day because of the Eclipse. Anyways, IMHO, for the money and quality, you would be making a WISE decision to select the Eclipse. Some prefer Badgers, a couple are nice AB's...i preferred the Eclipse. Some folks prefer the Infinity series, some the Harder & Steenbeck...they aren't as Versatile IMHO for the money they cost...great AB's though. Some like Sparmax, some like Grex. Ive tried all the AB's stated and while all are good....I wouldn't trade my Iwata Eclipse for 2 of any those others. Ive had mine for 5 years plus now and use every week at some point. I clean and care for it regularly so to date ive not had one problem with it at all and i performs flawlessly every time. Now, having said all that, were Iwata not to make an airbrush and i had to buy another instead and for the good cost....id go with the Badger Renegade Krome. Ive used it and quite liked it.

Just my humble opinion Tony,

Gary

I think Don has some good information on his site, but he does have a bit of a relationship with Badger so I would keep that in mind when you're going through his reviews.

The Iwata HP-CS is a great airbrush for paint. It's a standard among airbrush artists who work with paint... like Craig Fraser etc ...you can see from this short intro..

My mistake, I miss read part of his review. So, with this and the additional views of others I've now made the decision to go with the Iwata Eclipse (HP-CS).

No worries. There are a lot of choices in tools we modelers make. It helps to have input from someone who has already spent their own money on the items we are considering.

Just a heads up though, many of the big airbrush artists use brushes provided by sponsors. I always take their recommendations on equipment with that in mind. With that said, I've had an Iwata Eclipse HP-SBS , the side feed version of the brush you are considering, for 14 years and it has always performed flawlessly.

Cheers,
PH

Oh yeah, the airbrush Craig Frasier is using in the video link Paul Budzik posted is not the standard Iwata Eclipse HP-CS. It appears to be an Iwata Eclipse HP-CS Kustom with larger paint cup and raised trigger. The one in the video also has a tail piece which is customized from the standard HP-CS Kustom model. That's not a bad thing, it's just that if you decided you want the same brush you saw in the link, you have to order the right model.

Cheers,
PH

The HP-CS internals are all the same no matter whether Kustom or not (including the packings, washers etc). I have both and will say that the balance of the standard version is much better. The Kustom series uses larger paint cups as they are meant for the auto guys, but outside of that they are the same. The only Kustom brush that is unique is the Kustom TR because the cup is center mounted rather than a side cup like the standard TR, they also include the cutaway handle.

I didn't mean to infer the Kustom CS internals such as the nozzle assembly, needle or seals where different or that the standard HP-CS wasn't a great brush or even that the video you referenced was not a good example. I pointed out that the brush used in the video wasn't the brush the same model being discussed in the thread since the is a substantial difference in price.

As for the differences between the Kustom CS and the HP-CS, Iwata's data shows that the current model of the Kustom CS has a larger paint cup, a taller trigger assembly and a preset handle that does not come on the standard model. Again, I'm not saying your brush is not exactly the same as the standard CS except for the cup, just that Iwata says the current Kustom CS has these different features.

By the way, I love the site and the videos you've put together. Reminds me of when I attended those local IPMS meetings and saw the projects you were working on. My favorite was the Razorback P-47 you reworked. Very impressive!

Right Paul,

I just wanted to let the OP know he didn't have to spend the money for a Kustom thinking he was going to get better performance. In addition, the Iwata preset handle is a pretty standard add-on if you want it.

Thanks for the comment on the videos ... boy that P-47 goes way back.

I use the Iwata HP-CS and love it. Easy to use, easy to clean, has an easy-align nozzle.
